VS 10 trial library clips out of order.

Post by Trevor Andrew »

Hi

There has always been an order problem when inserting clips into video studio.

Usually they are in the wrong order due to the way VS numbers its files compared to how windows reads the files. There is a work round by selecting the correct ones prior to inserting.

There has never been a problem afaik when dragging files from the timeline to the library.
Version 10 seems to have a bit of a bug here.

When I drag several clips from the timeline to the library, the first clip seems to want to take up position at the end of the line, rather than at the front.
Dragging another set gets worse, with the clips taking position before the previous but loosing one clip to the end.
Do it a few times and it’s a real mess.

Dragging from the library to the timeline is ok.

I have checked VS 9 and this is ok with the clips in order.

I am using the trial version 10.

Can someone please check this out with the full version in a hope that it is the trial.

I am unable to report to tech support as they take no notice of trial versions, which is a shame.

Thanks Trevor

Trevor - In the full version of V10+ , if I drag clips individually up from the timeline into the library they go and stay wherever I place them , beginning, middle , end - whatever.

However if I multi-select the clips in the timeline and drag a number up simultaneously then they seem to dot themselves around the library in what appears at the moment to be an arbitary fashion.

Don't know if this is of any assistance -- and I am sure you will already be aware of it -- but while I too experience this strange behaviour with placing multiple files in the library, I simply then right click in the library pane and at the bottom of the pop-up which appears, select 'Sort By' and then (usually) select 'Name'. However, you can also select 'Date'. Mind you, we are still subject to Ulead's strange file naming system in all this. But it at least gets them in the order they were captured.

Hi

Thanks Ken / Brian

It’s a pity that VS 10 has not fixed the file name problem.

But the insert to library is a new problem and needs fixing.

Using the ‘sort by date’ seems the best option as a work-round.
I will just have to remember it needs doing when moving clips around.

I have reported the problem to tech support but they may ignore the request as its from a trial version.
No harm in trying.

Thanks again Trevor

FWIW, it is not a problem which only occurs in Video Studio. I have been using Adobe Premier Pro 2.0 quite a lot in recent weeks. When I Import a number of video clips into the program's equivalent of the library pane, inevitably, the last one highlighted places itself first, and I have to physically drag it back to where it should be...

Thanks Ken

This did not happen using earlier versions of Video Studio.
A backwards step i think.

Hi

I have received a reply from tech support. Very good to say it was related to a trial version.

Thank you for trying the evaluation version of VideoStudio 10. About your inquiry, the problem is not happened in our purchased versions of the program. Using VS 10, you can sort all the videos in your library accordingly to date saved or modified or in the first letter. You can always click this function in the program's media library so you can easily find the file you want to add in your project.

Hope this helps. Thank you.

Hi

Just a little update.

I have received my update disc of VS 10. Not bad to say it only took one week from order to delivery. So well done ulead.

The clips out of order problem is still noticeable using the purchased version irrespective of Uleads comments.

Using the sort by ‘name/date’ is not an option. I wish to move title clips to the library then edit then move them back to a new project, I cannot keep the correct order.

Image clips within the timeline are random and therefore cannot be sorted in order.

Again I wish to keep the order when moving clips between the timeline and the library, not a big deal. VS 7/8/9 does this. So why a problem with 10.

Thanks Brian and Ken for your input.

Clip order solution

Hi

I reported this problem again to Ulead some weeks ago. I feel like I am being ignored. Tech support are very poor when they want to be.

I think I have found an easy work-round.

By using Copy and Paste from the Timeline to the Library the clips are placed in the correct order. That’s simple.

Fortunately Drag and Drop from Library to Timeline is OK.

So why on earth is drag and drop to Library not successful?
