Thanks, Torsten, I have been looking for an H.264 codec to try.
However, this one has problems when used with VS10+. I loaded a 25 second video clip (mpeg2 720x480, UFF 8Mbps) in the timeline and tried to create an H.264 video file. The file seemed to render properly (only one CPU busy) but 10+ crashed after it finished the file with the following error signature:
AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 10.0.0.0 ModName: uvavi.vio
ModVer: 6.0.0.0 Offset: 0003a84e
MPC plays the file with black screen but the sound track is audible.

Sorry about that, I haven't tried this codec myself, nor have I upgraded from UVS 9 to 10+ yet -- I'm mostly using MediaStudio 8 Pro these days.
My recommendation at this point would be to use QuickTime 7 Pro, it has H.264 support, but I think you'll be forced to output MOV/QT files, I don't believe you can use the codec with AVI containers.
