German still uses the Western character set, so it is easy to mix languages if needed.

Use Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map to see the character map for a given font, and then cut-and-paste the character, or press the key combination shown to enter the character while creating the title.

Possibly Georg (Moderator of the German Version of this forum) or
Devil who I seem to recall is bi-lingual may know a better solution.

Here's what I would try.
1. Download a German Character set
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q= ... font&meta=

2. Create a "look up table" perhaps with excel where pressing a letter on my keyboard produces a certain german character.

Perhaps try to use the the ASCII-Numbers if the letters with dots are inside the fonts.

Hold down the ALT-Key and type on the number-pad a code with three numbers.

Many of the so-called fonts do not have the full character sets for umlauted vowels etc. The safest fonts are Arial and TNR, although the latter is not really very good for subtitling because of the serifs.

If you have a lot to do, I would suggest you set up your Windows for a German keyboard: the letters are identical to an English or US keyboard except that the Y and the Z are transposed. The punctuation symbols and special characters are different, to make place for the umlauted vowels and some special symbols are found using the right-hand alt-key. You can type out a list of the new keys onto sticky labels to post onto the keys.

If you are being handsomely paid, you mat even find it worthwhile to invest in a German keyboard (a few € at Conrad, for example).

I presume you realise that the s-ts, in MSP are not selectable? If you wish them to be so, then I suggest you consider WS2.

From windows control panel open international options (may be also called regional options, depending on windows version). Select the input locales tab. Add the keyboards you like. (I am using German, English and Greek and sometimes Greek Polytonic). You can switch between the different layouts by default with alt left shift, but you might change this also. If you need to get familar with the keyboard, you can see the layout with windows on screen keyboard (start/programs/accessories/accessibility), which reacts also on shift.
