Hi everyone, I new on here and this is my first post...
I'm using DVD MovieFactory 5 (full retail version) on a PC with a nVidia FX5700 Personal Cinema video card, running XP Media Center Edition and I'm trying to transfer VHS videos onto my computer so I can make DVDs out of them. The capturing appears to be going just fine, everything appears normal on the capture screen but my problem occurs when I attempt to view the captured file with Windows Media Player. Then, a big white horizontal banner appears across the captured video, blanking out the mid section of the picture/screen. I'll be capturing a segment for several minutes and after I go through to check it, I see that a white banner popped up and now I have to redo the capture. The weird thing is that the white banner doesn't appear in the capture preview window. It only appears when I play back the file, or of course when I burn the file into a DVD. I'd appreciate all your help in promptly resolving this matter. I emailed customer service (tech support) twice about this but have not heard anything, not even an acknowledgement from them thus far... Thanks in advance for all your help!

Hi,
That's the reason I asked what kind of tapes.
I believe you are experiencing the "Copy Protection" that is formatted on the VHS tapes. What is happening is completely normal.
If the tapes have any warnings about copying/duplicating in the beginning or the holders then they are copy protected.
So you are experiencing true copy protection. Sometimes home made movies also have this occur which are settings in the VCR or capturing device for the computer that may have to be fine-tuned.
In your case you can't fine tune anything. Best to buy the DVD version of the tape.
Hope this helps,
MD
