I am new to ulead videostudio 10+ so....(i always used pinnacle studio)
I have captured a dv file from my digital camera with another program. opening it in videostudio 10+ then editing en other things (title's music etc). The possibilities are enourmes! I am impressed so testing and testing.
The question is: The file that i captured was 1 avi file that i choose to scene detection in videostudio. After editing, i choosed: create disc in the menu. Then i see one file. This is the whole project file When i want to add chapters this is working but the entire project file stays and can't be deleted. But this is off course not the idea. I want to make 3 chapters (in a menu) spread over the entire movie (not the entire project/movie as a chapter).
I have tried to make the chapters in the timeline (before i choose create disc) but this chapters do NOT appear when i choose create disc??
What is the easiast way to make chapters in a menu? (and how can i get rid of the first (automatic chapter) thumbnail in create disc?

When you selected Create Disc with a project loaded in the timeline, 10+ shows your project file in the display on the bottom of the Create Disk window. Leave it there. Click the Gear shaped icon on the lower left and be sure that the video properties are set properly for making a DVD. I assume you live in the USA, so NTSC DVD is the right template.
The DVD menu procedure has been changed on version 10. You have to check Create Menu and then click the Add/Edit Chapters button. A new preview window opens. Here, you can drag the jog control on the prevew window to select the chapter entry points. Close this window. You will not see your chapter icons on the Create Disk timeline.
Push the Next button. This screen will let you chose a menu display and annotate your menu selections. Pushing the Next button again will let you preview your menu set up and operation. Be sure to preview and test the complete operation on the menu before you proceed with the DVD burn. If it isn't the way you want it, go back and fix the menu before continuing.
Good Luck. Let us know how your make out.

chapters
Thanks for your answer but:
When i do it your way, after i choose add/edit chapter and choose some chapters then the thumbnails are beiing displayed in the timeline of the create disc window and the first thumbnail (the projectfile / avi file itself stays also on that line. This is not good i think. I can't delete the first thumbnail.
I am a dutchman so PAL is the format for me.

It is annoying, but 10+ insists that you show the first frame of your video as as the first chapter. It's OK. BTW, My copy of 10+ does not display chapter icons on the Create Disk window - only on the ADD/Edit window.
Your challange will come on the next window to figure out how to annotate the menu controls. It is a bit confusing, IMHO. Preview, preview, preview. Burn on R/W DVDs to avoid making a matched set of beer coasters.
In PAL country, DVD-PAL template should already be set for you.

chapters
Ok, i have tried it again. Create the chapters 3 pieces. But the forst one (the movie / projectfile) stays.
Only in the menu page of the create disc i can HIDE the first one (movie file / projectfile). Is this the way to not to have the whole movie as a chapter?
By the way, you and other people of this forum are talking about: create disc from the timeline. I asume you mean: load a project, then choose create disc?
The other way is not to load a project and choose directly create disc?
Is there a sgnificant difference?

Surfer,
There has to be an icon that points to the start of the DVD. It would be nice if Video Studio permitted any icon to show but it doesn't.
The top sticky post describes the classic Recommended Procedure for getting good results with Video Studio (avoiding bugs). It seems that version 10+ has many of those bugs fixed and operates more reliably. This has not been proven, yet. Some users think the classic procedure is more work. However, with earlier versions, it greatly improved our chances of successful DVD burns.
So, the way you are proceeding (the intuitive way) is what we are discussing in that thread.
The problem that you are addressing (making DVD menus) is common to both procedures, so I urge you to continue on in the direction you are going.
