I am a VS7/8 user planning to go VS10, in main for text menus and I use a trusty reliable Sony PC101e
I use this setup for "home movies" only and all my previous offerings have been in 4:3 format, however, I feel that I should start getting with the times especially as I have been asked to record my brothers wedding in the upcoming weeks.
I have read that the PC101e can record in 16:9, however, this only effectively crops top and bottom, are there any obvious quality disadvantages with doing this. To my mind the quality should remain the same and will of course view much better on his widescreen television. Using a software solution would be inappropriate I feel as the compostition, and most peoples heads I guess would be lost.
I will in the meantime I will do some testing for my own peace of mind but are there any problems with how VS8 and 10 handle the format or anything else I should consider ?
Any help is appreciated

General advice on 16:9

Hi Burgo,
The best thing you can do is what you are already planning to do
Do some end-to-end testing, including the actual burning to DVD and viewing the DVD on a widescreen and 4:3 tv.
When you put your camcorder on a tripod, set it to record something that shows clearly the left/right boundaries (in 4:3 mode). Then switch to the widescreen mode -- do the left/right boundaries change (go wider), or are they the same

George
