The disk is not empty, or there is no disc in the device

Post by *Xemnas* »

I put empty discs so i can burn a video but i keep getting " The disk is not empty, or there is no disc in the device. Insert a blank disc, then try again.

I put a new empty disk but I keep getting that same message. I have used Sony DVD+R and have tried Verbatim DVD-Recordable but still get the same message.

Please help.

Disable your CD/DVD packet writing software like Nero InCD, Roxio etc.

I disabled Roxio but still get the same message. Is there anything else I could do to solve this problem?

I bet my left foot. The packet writing software highjacks your drive as soon as it sees an empty disk in it. Roxio seems to be one of the worst in that department. Never had it and hence cannot advise on how to disable it. I would simply uninstall it and use MF for my burning.

I uninstalled Roxio but still get the same thing on MF.

I got a couple of screenshots of what I got. Maybe I am doing something wrong that could easily be fixed?

You are trying to burn a DVD video to standard CD-ROM, that won't work. Even the CD you are trying to burn to has not enough space for the whole thing. Try creating a DVD folder first (untick the "burn to disk" option.

Just re-visited your previous post with the screen shots. I made a mistake, don't know how but somehow must have had my wires crossed. There is nothing suggesting you were trying to burn to CD ROM. Sorry again.

Now, you said you created a DVD folder. Does it contain a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder? If yes, you have created your DVD. You can burn these two folders to your DVD+R (I prefer DVD-R) and see if they play in your DVD player. To save you some burned coasters I suggest to use DVD+ or DVD-RW discs until you get your process right. You can re-use these discs if it doesn't work. Standard DVD+ or DVD-R discs can only be burned once.

Thats Alright.

Am I supposed to Import the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder and try to burn that?

I tried that and it had this video file when I imported the VIDEO_TS. So I tried burning that video but I still get the no disk in drive message from my first post. :(

No, you don't import the Video_TS folder into anything, except when burning it to disc, in your burning software, you use the "Add Data" function of your burning program to get the VIDEO_TS folder to show up in the list of data to be burned. You can add the AUDIO_TS folder as well, even though it's empty (it always is) and hit the "Burn" button.

What other burning software do you have installed? How exactly, did you get rid of the Roxio program? Have you been able to burn before?

I have had Roxio My DVD LE. I uninstalled it including all the other roxio programs I had. I have never burned DVD videos. Seems complicated. I have bruned alot of Music mixes though.

I have a few wedding videos thats on my computer I just want to burn it to a DVD+R or a DVD-R disk so I could watch it on my dvd player.

Did you check if there is an unrelated problem with your burner?

Go to Control Panel >System >Hardware >Device Manager. Do you see any yellow exclamation mark or other symbol next to your CD drive?

It's strange that MF does not see your burner or DVD in it.

What is the brand of your burner? Check properties of your CD drive by right clicking on it in Device Manager and select Properties. Can you provide a screen shot of that?

I am pretty lost with this issue. I really apperciate your help with this. I don't see no yellow exclamation mark or anything really. The screenshot I put should show both.

If you are using DVDMF 5, make sure you are using the correct project type.

If you want to author a DVD disc, check if the project type is DVD. If you are authoring a HD DVD prject, you will not be able to burn the project to a DVD disc. Only the first inital version of DVDMF 5 can do that.

If you are using DVDMF 4 or earlier, check the Program Update Packs and the CD/DVD Engine Pack from http://www.ulead.com/tech/dmf/dmf.htm
