Is it possible to output to 640x480 WMV using a trial versio

Post by JoshHobbs »

Video Studio v10 Trial . . Under Share / Create Video, there are WMV output resolution options available that exceed 320x480 (ie 1280x768), however when I choose any of these options, the standard result that I get is 208x160. Additionally, Share Video Online / Best Quality is supposed to output a file at 640 x 480, however I am only getting a 208x160 WMV resolution file. I have simplified my testing by only using a single 2816x2112 image displaying itself for 10 seconds . . very basic . . My gut is telling me that my issue here is that I am using a Trial version, however I can't find anything on ULead's site to support my theory. I would be VERY appreciative of any help that any of you could give me. Thank you very much -

Small comfort but in boxed version 10+,when I select SHARE/Create Video/ WMV 320x480 with an mpeg2 (720x480 8000kbps) in the timeline, it quickly transcodes to the selected format:
Windows Media Video
24 bits, 320 x 240, 30 fps
Frame-based
44.100 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo
Windows Media Video 8 for Broadband (NTSC, 700 Kbps)

How are you determining the 208x160 frame size properties?

Hi Josh

I am using the trial version and have just created two Wmv files with no problems.
Using Share Create Video File and Share Video Online Best Quality produced the correct properties, frame size and all.

Trevor and JCHunter . . first of all, thank you both for replying . .
Trevor - what resolution are you seeing / getting when you created your two Wmv files ?
JCHunter - from Windows Explorer you can put your pointer over the WMV file and Explorer will tell you the file's properties (ie resolution and fps).

The highest resolution that I can output as a WMV file is
352x288, 30fps (709kbps)
and that's done so under Share / Create Video File / Custom / (WMV) -Options / Profile -Windows Media Video 8 for Broadband (PAL, 700kbps).

My objective is to get the highest WMV resolution output file that I can, and I am not concerned about frame rate or audio quailty.

I actually outputed every one of the WMV Custom Video Files as a test.

It's just interesting to me that under Share / Create Video File, that are output options like the WMV HD NTSC (1280x720, 29.97 that only output 208x160 230kbps files.

Anyhow . . thanks for the help/interest from the both of you . . I'll continue to experiment more on my own . . and may simply switch over to MPG or MP4 files, as they appear to have much more flexibilty . .
- thank you again :)

Hi Josh

Using Create Video File I can select these Wmv templates, the resulting files are ok.

Windows Media Video
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 25 fps
Frame-based
44.100 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo
Ulead - WMV HD 720p PAL Standard Quality

Windows Media Video
24 bits, 1440 x 1080, 16:9, 25 fps
Frame-based
44.100 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo
Ulead - WMV HD 1080 25p

And
24 bits, 320 x 240, 15 fps
24 bits, 220 x 176, 15 fps

Using Share On Line
Best Quality:-

Windows Media Video
24 bits, 640 x 480, 30 fps
Frame-based
44.100 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo
Ulead_Neptune_BestQuality

Plus three more options Good , Medium and Low

Each creates a video file to the template settings

Using Share create video File –Custom—WMV type –Options—Profiles

I have about 50 templates

Trevor . . thank you again . .

I don't understand why you can output the 'exact' resolution and I can not.

Would you mind emailing me a two WMV outputs, and the VSP file as well ?

I would like to see the

Windows Media Video
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 25 fps
Frame-based
44.100 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo
Ulead - WMV HD 720p PAL Standard Quality

and the

Best Quality:-
Windows Media Video
24 bits, 640 x 480, 30 fps
Frame-based
44.100 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo

This is all too odd . .

You can create additional templates with
Tools | Make Movie Manager

Hi Josh

It is strange that you cannot access all the Wmv templates using Video Studio.

I can only assume that the trial VS 10 is not installed correctly.

As an alternative you could use the Windows Media Encoder its free from Microsoft.
Should encode a variety of formats to wmv.

Hi,

I have the same problem, but with the FULL version... I'm new to VideoStudio but not to video editing.

If I opt to save a project in WMV format, regardless of the settings I choose, I only get a 208x160 @ 230kpbs file...

Also, if I opt to create a video file and choose "Custom" from the list, then "Windows Media Video" as the file type, then click on "Options", then the "Profile" tab, I get a list of various Windows Media Video 8 profiles, and nothing for Windows Media Video 9.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm aware I can work around the issue by saving as DV AVI and then using Windows Movie Maker or Windows Media Encoder to create the WMV output in the right format, but this is an extra step that I feel shouldn't be necessary.

Regards,

- Ali

EDIT: just to clarify, this is VS 10 plus on Windows XP.

Hi Ali / Josh

Are you using the latest version of windows media player.

Check for updates from the players Help menu.

Using XP you should be able to install Windows Media Player 10

Hi Ali,

I just checked and as Trevor posted there should be numerous options for creating WMV files. I created one using the Ulead NTSC BestQuality, 640 x 480.

To do this when I went to Share>Create Video, Selected Custom under the File Type pull down menu chose Windows Media Video, wmv, asf. Then selected the Options. Then on the Profile Tab selected the Ulead NTSC Best Quality.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. I have Windows Media Player 10 installed with the VMV9 CODECs (as Windows Movie Maker is able to save out a WMV9 file in varying resolutions/bitrates without a problem).

@Steve J - following your screenshots, in the "Template Options" dialogue and the "Profile" tab you've shown, I notice you have a nice long list beginning with "Ulead_Neptune_GoodQuality", then the WMV9 options, then WMV8...

The corresponding list on my PC starts with "Windows Media Video 8 for Color Pocket PCs (225Kbps)" and ends with "Windows Media 8 Best Quality based VBR for Broadband" - listing only the WMV8 options, and no "Ulead_Neptune..." options or WMV9...

Again from the "Template Options" dialogue and "Profile" tab, when you've clicked on "Customise", it seems you have a "Manage Profiles" box - whereas here I just get a simple "Template Options" dialogue containing a single drop-down list of all the WMV8 options...

Any further suggestions appreciated!

VideoStudio 9 Share Video File Templates

Post by Peter Tyson »

Hi Josh & Ali
I also have very similar problems with Videostudio 9 where the Share Video file Templates for outputing different Video formats has missing profiles. Namely the the Neptune and the VideoStudio 9 profiles. Also unable to modify/customise the WMV profile. I too wished to output a 640x480 WMV video file and so far unable to do this. Installed VideoStudio 9 (Full version) on a clean XP partition and found the Missing templates were in place -- good getting somewhere. Then went back to my original partition and uninstalled VideoStudio 9. Deleted all temp files and re-installed VideoStudio 9 and Voila all is as it should be. i have so far not diagnosed any further but suspicious of another application on this partition had interferred with the profiles. My bet is another Ulead product which would mean MovieFactory 4. I suspect the sequence of installing the applications on this partition is all important. Incedentally i have Windows Media player 9. As mentioned in other posts Windows Media Encoder will do the job very nicely if all else fails.

Good Luck
