A Problem--Please Help

Post by Calliope »

Hello, I am new to this board and I have a question. I’ve looked through a few pages on the board, and didn’t find an answer that way.

I am currently trying to extract a few minutes of video from a video file. I am using Movie Wizard within Ulead Video Studio, but I can’t quite get it to do what I want it to do. I only just downloaded the program a day ago, so I’m completely new to this.

The movie extension is a .VOB if this is any help. I am trying to get it to where it will clip the first 15 minutes and 6 seconds off, so that I can then save it to upload somewhere else for someone. (In this case, Youtube.)

So far, I have neither been able to find a way of doing this editing, nor have I been able to find a way to save anything I do extract from the video.

Could someone please help me? Please keep in mind that I have no experience with this type of thing whatsoever.

If you haven't done so already, download the User Manual.

Use the Import DVD feature to get the video into Video Studio. Most of the time this works. If not, the DVD files may not be compatible with Video Studio. A VOB is a specialized MPEG file. Sometimes you can get-away with simply changing the filename to .MPG.

Click the Edit tab to edit your video.

Click the Share tab to save your video. (The original VOB file won't be edited. A new file will be created.)

In the Movie Wizard it is actually Insert DVD but the operation is the same.

I just inserted a .Vob file straight into the VS 10 timeline.

I did receive a warning message (The file video-ts\vts-.vob) cannot be edited.
Do you want to perform a pre-process to make it editable.

Yes you bet. It then processed the file took 30 seconds and loaded the clip to the library.

I expected it to save a mpeg to the working folder, but no it just linked the TS-folder and Vob??

Interesting

As you suggested, Doug, I changed it to to a .MPG. It was able to edit it after that, and worked perfectly.

It took a bit of work, but I did manage to get it done. Thanks for the help, everyone. :)
