That's a green-screen technique. Videostudio can do that, and Ulead even sells a green-screen backdrop.

Essentially, you film yourself in front of a solid color (usually green) backdrop, and then Videostudio overlays the non-green portion of one video on top of another.

With a real subject in front of a green screen, lighting is very important. It needs to be strong and even with no shadows, or the keying signal will start to tear when you start to overlay it.

Your chromakey back drop can be purchased at the Ulead site. You would then have this as a physical background behind you. You would do a test recording and capture the footage of you sitting against the green ( I think Ulead's is blue) screen. Then you could test the keying signal and if all is good do your takes to camera.

The manual includes instructions on how to perform chroma keying, and there are even some sample files you can use that are part of the Extra Content. This includes a woman filmed in front of a green background, who can be superimposed on top of a video of your choice.

You can get more background information on chroma keying here.

Ulead makes their product documentation available in electronic form (Adobe Acrobat / PDF) in the Download section of their website.

I found this site using THoff's link, that gives details of how to build a portable ChromaKey Screen.

Hi SultanMan

The green screen, used to be blue screen a few years ago is just the background colour you shoot your video against.

The Ulead green screen is a cloth that you hang up to film against.
The green background is then removed by video studio.

As an example, In the UK the weather forecaster on tv has been recorded against a green screen, the weather map being added later.

In the ulead video library is a clip of the ulead lady against a green background.
This is an example of a green screen effect.
Use this clip in the Overlay Track and apply the Chrome Effect
Place another clip in the main timeline to act as the background.

Hope this Helps

A alternative to purchasing the chroma color cloth at Ulead or any other photo shop web site is to go to a Target store , Walmart or equal and look at their bed sheets . They usually have on sale the bed sheets. Look carefully to the green colors. I purchased for under $30 two bed sheets and pillow cases of a particular shade of green that works great with Ulead Video Studio 9 and 10+. The pillow cases can be put over the heads of the actors, and by using the chroma color key, they appear to be headless.

Look at your chroma color chart and select a color that matches one of them.

Yes SultanMan that appears to be the same color I purchased. I went to the store in person to check on the color. But, the color in the link you referenced looks identical to mine...

As you can see, it is a lot less than the photostore chroma color cloths.
Perhaps the photostore color cloths are thicker, but the color bed sheets do a
great job for me.
