Working Folder +Back-up for 10+

Post by shoalhaven »

I received my boxed ver 10+ this morning. It was mailed out on Tues. the 16th. Not bad!

I could use some suggestions regarding the Working Folder in Ver 10+.

I just put together a new computer with SATA drives, three 400 GB hard drives, Dual digital monitors, etc.

Question -- should I jam all video files into drive C and clone the drive every week, or should I take advantage of the (alledged) SATA capabilities by placing my video files into an external drive in a SATA 2 enclosure which I already have?

For cloning, I use Ghost, and have had great success.

Incidentally, another earlier post mentioned the size of the boxed version Manual. Here sre some manual measurements:

Ver. 8 8 1/4 x 5 7/8 201 pages
9 7 1/8 x 5 218 pages
10+ 6 x 4 3/4 183 pages

Thanks for any help.

This is my setup. I have two internal hard drives C & F.

I loaded VS10 on c: drive. I then created a diretory on the f drive called Ulead 10. In that directory are three files, work folder, capture, & iso.

I set my capture to save on f:\ulead10\capture
I set my working folder on f:\ulead10\workfolder
When I burn a DVD, I like to make a backup file, therefore my iso file.

This has worked well for me.....

Rich2Putt --

That's pretty much what I did for Ver. 9.

I put all my ULead data files as well as my MP3's on F drive. Worked very well.

Thanks for your input.

You may be interested in how I have set up my 3 Internal Hard Drive System. The topic is still under construction but this part of it has been completed:

Hi

The working folder and capture folder are the same one.
When you change one, the other changes as well.
I use a separate working folder for each project.

Video Studio 9 / 10 uses a separate working folder for the burn process.
This can be allocated from the preferences icon lower left of burn window.
Changing this does not change the capture/working folder

Thank you gentlemen for your input.

Steve, I commend you for undertaking such a monumental task as your tutorial.

Regarding the setup of multi-hard drives, would this be a situation wherein a RAID configuration might come into its own?

The idea of reading and writing in parallel sounds intriguing, but I'm certain there are some disadvantages.

Peace--

You've just reminded me to update the topic in the tutorial Sections!
