SYNCING IMAGES WITH MUSIC
I recently upgraded to VS10. I thought I saw somewhere that images could change (go from one to the next) based on the rhythm of the music. Now, of course, I can't find that anymore. If this is true could someone guide me on how to do that?
Thanks,
Karen

No, VS can not do that.

Karen,
Rich is right that there is no automatic way to time the changing of the image with the beat of the music. However, I do it manually, by adjusting the duration of the clips to match the time between music beats and then slide the audio clip so that the beat coincides with the cut from one image to the next. Trial and error. It sounds great, by the way.

Hi Karen / John
VS 10 appears to have added a pointer strip, a marker, don’t know what to call it!
When in Timeline View, just under the ruler is a smaller strip, click this strip and a pointer/marker is inserted.
You may be able to use this to mark the beat of your music, pity the images don’t auto insert to these markers. You will still have to manually adjust the image duration.

Trevor,
I have seen these little markers and wondered what they were. I haven't had time to see if there is any documentation.
The thing is, the cut between two slides is already evident in the timeline view. What would be nice is some way to mark the beat point of the music on the sound clip so that you could locate the first beat with the first cut and then adjust either each slide's duration and/or the play speed of the music to sync up the rest. BTW, the play speed can be varied quite a bit before it sounds funny (I have only tried this on VS9).

The only markers that I'm aware of are Chapter Point Marks. If I recall, they did not include the Cue Marks like in MSP. The Chapter Marks will be carried over and recognized in the burn module when you are building your menus and adding Chapters.trevor andrew wrote:Hi Karen / John

If what you are trying to achieve is a slideshow where you can get a picture to change according to changes in the music you would do better to use ProShow Gold http://www.photodex.com/
This will enable you to place all of your slides onto a timeline then select music to accompany them.
It then has a module that allows you to play the music and each time you want a slide to change to the next you press the spacebar.
You can then export the slideshow as an MPEG2 DVD compliant video file.
Although it also contains a DVD authoring module I prefer to export as an MPEG and then use one of my Ulead products to author the DVD.
In fact If I create a photo slideshow I normally also have on the same DVD a movie file. You could even insert the slideshow within the movie file - it all depends upon what you are creating.
Movie Making does not mean you have to stick to just one piece of software. Last year I created a DVD for charity and in the end credits I listed the software that I used to create that DVD.
This list is no reflection on the abilities of one over another, it is simply what I had available to me at the time but here is the list as shown in my end credits:
Adobe Photoshop CS
Audacity
Dimadsoft Menu Edit 3.2.1
Memo Session Recorder
Nero Burning Rom 6.3.15
Ulead DVD Workshop 2
Ulead Media Studio Pro 7.0
Ulead Photo Impact 10
Ulead Video Studio 9
Womble MPEG Movie Wizard
Windows Movie Maker 2.
All that software and for just one DVD!

Are these "pointers" used for chapters? and how do you delete them?
Thanks..........

Hi Rich,
Yes they are for Chapters.
Yes they are for Chapters.
Ron P.VS10 Manual Page 65-66 wrote: Adding chapters using Chapter Point Bar
You can add chapter pointers by clicking . Select Add to specify the chapter
name and the specific timecode you want to set as a new chapter. Notice that,
below your Timeline ruler, chapter pointers are set as markers in your movie.
To edit a chapter, click on a chapter pointer you want to edit and drag to a new
position.
To rename, double click a chapter pointer and then enter a new chapter name.
Click OK.
To remove, simply drag the pointer outside the timeline ruler and then drop.

Thanks, Ron...........I thought after reading this thread the pointers were something other then for marking chapters.

IMHO, these little chapter markers are WAY too easy to create when mousing around on the timeline! BTW, you delete them by mousing on them and then dragging them downward. Not very intuitive IMHO. Just like the sound window rubber-band markers.
Newbies are going to be wondering why 97 weird chapter points are already selected when they try to Burn a DVD...

Hi All
At least I know what the little markers are, thanks for that.
I assume the chapter markers will only be used if you create a dvd from the timeline.
Not that I will ever do that.
I have tested this and indeed it creates chapters, to be expected.
I further assume that if I use the pointers in my project as pointers to indicate my audio and subsequently create a video file that they will not be included in the Mpeg file????? will they just disappear??

Try the Tools Video Studio Movie Wizard
Insert Images
Next --Background music
Options Cogwheel---Fit to background music tempo
Dont know how good it is, but it appears to work.
