No preview window with Sony HC3 and HDV

Post by Icebeer »

Hi all,

I have a Sony HC3 connected over Firewire to my Notebook. The Software is VideoStudio 9 with the HDV plugin. I think I have configured the drivers correctly. The HC3 is recognised as SONY device and can be controlled via the control buttons of VideoStudio. I found out that even recording works and I can edit the recorded movies afterwards.
However: I get no preview screen! It remains black.
Switching to the Assistent Mode, which opens another preview screen shows the message "preview graph can not be created" besides some strange error code 15001:... whatever.
I found hints in the web, to switch to different capture plugins or device drivers or reinstall DirectX. But the result is the same. No preview.
The HC3 is configured to HDTV out with no iLink conversion. So I think the camera is ok.

Can anybody help me with this please?

Thanks!

You might want to download the Try Before You Buy version of Movie Factory 5, it's capture module is better than the one in VS9. By using MF5 you could possibly see if your VS9 is corrupted.

Icebeer,
If you installed the mpeg4 plugin after you installed the HDV plugin, the mpeg4 installation interfered with HDV. I was able to clear up the problem by reinstalling the HDV plugin.

thanks to all for their help, I finally got it working.

The problem was the videodriver for the graphics card. It looks like you really have to install the last certified graphics driver from your notebook or pc manufacturer. I installed for my notebook one of those modified drivers to make games run faster, but it seems this prevented the preview screen from working...
