How-to: Image fade-out to white

Post by Marweb »

I have been using PI since about v.4 and I have yet to find a simple way to create Image Fade-Outs that do not depend upon a shape, so that whatever the image shape, it will fade to "O" or pure white if that is the background color. The closest I seem to come is by using the Image Enhancements/Photo Effects/Lens Filters/Spot Filter. It seems like this should be a simple procedure....
Any suggestions?

Heinz Oz understands Masks better than do I. However, I would suggest you create a mask with the correct Fade-out characteristics and then apply to your image.

Being an old PI user, I am sure you know there are sample Masks in the Libraries you could use as examples.

Secondly, PI is object oriented, not layer oriented, and therefore in most situations, you have to select something to apply an effect or make an adjustment.

I may be off base but you may get what you want by fooling around with paint on edges. If you have an irregular shaped object selected, select the paintbrush tool. Change the tool color to white and play with the size and transparency options. Hit Shift+P to see what you get.
