I have used MSP 6 and now 7 for sometime, so this may sound like a dumb question, but something strange happened and I can't figure out what I have done.
In the past, I have used the default DV NTSC DV encoder type-1 settings for my project settings. A couple of days ago while working on a project I started messing around with these settings (I know it was stupid). Then when I tried to put them back, now the playback in preview mode is now horrid and jerky. I have a fairly old system (PIII - 1GHZ with an 80G HD, 512 MB RAM). But in the past, it was good. I am not sure what I have done.
One note, I had downloaded the MSP8 trial but I didn't have time to really test drive it before the trial ran out so I uninstalled it during this time.
Anyone have any ideas?
Also, does the project settings have any bearing on outputting to a file (ex can I use the AVI settings and output to MPEG?

Indeed, PIII at 1 GHz is a little weak. However, I suggest you open the Preview window menu and look at the Instant Playback settings, for a start.

Project settings and output settings are independent. So you can do what you wanted, I used this often.
I wished, the output settings would default at least a little bit to the project settings. E.g. if my project settings are pal, 720x576, lower field first I may wish to output as dv avi or mpeg, but dont understand why I get allways offered ntsc upper field first with some curious resolution.

For anyone who might read this message with a similar issue --
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no success. After much trial and error, and playing with other projects, I decided that it must be something corrupting my time line project since other projects seemed ok when I ran them. I just did an import to a new project and everything is fine now. Hope this might help someone.
