PI 8 - Web Album Browser Incompatibility with Firefox

Post by han-shan »

I've used PhotoImpact Album to generate numerous Web albums of family photos. These albums work perfectly when Internet Explorer (IE) is the browser, but do not work with Firefox. In Firefox, the thumbnail frame appears, but the full-sized image frame is not properly displayed. The same thing happens when frames are not used. That is, when only a thumbnail page is used, without frames, if the thumbnail is clicked, the full-sized image fails to be shown.

I use FrontPage 2003 to generate and maintain my Web site. I import the Albums into my FrontPage Web in the normal way, then update my server. There are no problems with the albums when IE is the browser.

Any suggestions as to what may be causing this and how to cure it?

To view an example of what I mean, go to: http://www.havensfamily.com/Cherry_Pond ... _snow.html and view the album in IE, then in Firefox.

Afaik all web-creation related functions of Ulead's products work exclusively with IE (save for the simplest ones), so they are basically useless.

When you edit the pages in FrontPage, have you set the browser settings in the Page Options of FrontPage?

For more details, check the following links.

Manual Modifications Attempted

Post by han-shan »

Thanks for the suggestions. I verified the HTML in the PhotoImpact generated photo album code with the online service referred to above:
http://www.netmechanic.com/browser-photo/BPfaq.htm#13 and it pointed out that there was a </FRAMESET> tag missing. I added that so that there was a </FRAMESET> tag for each <FRAMESET> and then the photo album worked in Firefox, but, oddly in IE it didn't work properly. Instead, it created a new window with the full-sized image rather than showing the full-sized image in the second frame.

I also tried moving the Photo Album folder directly to my server using WS-FTP without moving it into FrontPage at all with the exact same results. This issue has nothing to do with FrontPage.

It seems to me that Ulead might want to fix this bug, or at least test it out and suggest a solid manual code fix that users like me could apply so that Photo Album's Web album works properly in all browsers, or at least in the more popular ones such as Firefox, Opera, and Safari as well as IE.

Have you checked the update pack for PI 8?

http://ftp.ulead.com/pub/Updates/PhotoI ... atch_E.exe

Or maybe you want to download PI 11 trial and check if it's been fixed?

http://www.ulead.com/pi/trial.htm

Hope this helps.

I already have the PI8 update patch installed.

I tried downloading and installing the PI-11 version and ran into several installation problems that weren't successfully resolved so asked for, and received, a refund.

After this and other frustrations (like unsuccessfully trying to manually adjust the HTML code created by Photo Album simply to get it to work correctly in the browsers other than IE), I've obtained another Web photo album software product that uses Java and works on all browsers and operating systems -- plus you can't beat the price -- FREE! So now it's just a matter of converting all my existing albums.

This is all kinda sad, since I've been using PI since version 5, hence my reluctance to switch. But all good things come to an end, I guess.

Anyway, thank you for your suggestions.
