1. Brushes, and brush tips we can make, and import brushes from other programs, ie psp or ps with use of colours and gradients.
2. Enable to lock toolbars and menubars so they don't jump out in the middle of working.
3. A more stable program and one that doesn't constantly shut down.
4. Improve memory reading so PI can handle very large projects.
5. CMYK for professional printing.
6. Pen and tablet to be more effective with the program, ie: pressure, size etc.
7. Tool Settings box - have ALL functions in one box, ie: transparency, soft edge..... etc there seems to be too many duplications or bits here and bits there.....combine in one neat area - The Tool Box
8. Text Tool Box - again, have all functions in this one box.
9. Enable the QCP to be moved to another location if required like other tool bars.
10. Larger editing tools - 500 pixel maximum is outdated. It's time to give us a bigger tools to use as size does matter!
11. Instead of offering just three control for tone, upgrade to five so that we can control the lower mid-tones and upper mid-tone ranges better. This would be exceptionally handy for portrait work and fine art landscape work.
12. It would be nice if the quick command recorder would record the alignment commands and the arrow key keystrokes. It assist those of us who put copyright marks or text on every image or group of images in the same spot by creating a task. It would save time on workflow.
13. A canvas that can be rotated would be a boon too especially when drawing.
14. Better 'shadow' so one can make a shadow inside.
15. Better HELP that explains about tools but gives examples of their function
16. Fix up Smart curve and express fix....... the results are not good as they are
17. Enable the small icons for tools etc to be coloured the same as the large ones.
18. An improved technical help...... technical help that actually answers email.
19. Put back UGA5 or any updated Gif Animator with PhotoImpact.

Resize during lasso operation
In older versions (XL) we had the ability to resize by keystroking the + or - during lasso operations. I miss this feature and would request its reappearance.
Two requests:
1) Reduce load time. PI 12 takes FOREVER to load compared to any previous version (and I have almost every version going back to PI3).
2) Provide "light" installation. PI takes up almost 10x the disc space of any other program on my computer, almost entirely for various library files that I seldom, if ever, need. PI needs some sort of "install on first use" technology, long a part of Microsoft Office products, in order to reduce this bloat for those of us that don't need it all.
3) Better interface on the Smartcurves technology. Can anyone understand all the conflicting controls in the various dialogs? This is an amazing feature, not only for use on multiple shots of the same scene, but also to be able to bring out detail from deep shadows in a single-shot photo.

EXIF data preservation
May I request preservation of EXIF data when performing the following actions:
1). Enabled color management in preferences.
2). Converting raw (.cr2) to jpeg.
Currently using Photo Impact V12 with update No. 1 and doing above actions, edited images have no EXIF data.
Best regards
Manuel Rosario

Re: EXIF data preservation
I will take this one step further. I would like to see the ability to EDIT EXIF data. currently I am forced to use a third party program Exif Promanuelprosario wrote:May I request preservation of EXIF data when performing the following actions:......
One example of when you would need to do this is if your camera date is wrong - perhaps you have entered a different time zone and forgot to alter the date. Perhaps you installed new batteries and the camera 'Lost' it's date setting.

More Tool Buttons on the Left side
You have Blur and dodge and burn and smudge and 15 other tools all in one pull down menu.
So it takes longer to switch to different tools because they are click and pull down menus.
I'd like this program to work in 800 x 600 so I don't have to pile up work for the day that I want to change my screen resolution for 3 hours.
And why does it take so long after saving an image to be able to work on another?
Also some kind of Pull down menu to switch to another image by name without having to Tile or Cascade and then hunt around for it.

Orientation Exif vs Image "Rotation"
I really can't believe no one has mentioned this one.
Most modern digital cameras support a sensor which detects whether the user is holding the camera horizontally (normal) or rotated to the left or the right (-90 or +90) and possibly even upside down (-180). The purpose of this is to automate the correct display of the photo on playback and editing. The Exif data field that supports this is and is called "Orientation".
In programs which support this, like PhotoShop and Adobe Bridge, (and many many others) when a user needs to actually rotate the photo only the exif field is changed. This are a number of good reasons for this. The image data (often a jpg) is left untouched and only the exif header is altered so as not to cause another generation of lossy compression. It's also faster you don't have to wait for a 4 Meg file to open, be mathematically rotated and then saved. And as previously mentioned it automates the task of rotating photos which can be a big drag depending on the circumstances of the shoot and the number of photos. And finally, when PhotoImpact uses its "open-rotate-save" method it doesn't bother to change the exif field in question causing every other program in the production chain which might be dependent on the image -- to be pooched -- because the exif data is effectively now INCORRECT. This needs to be addressed. The exif field Orientation needs support.

1. Keep thinking in professionals. Photoimpact have advanced and productive tools, it is my replacement for Photoshop in most digital photography works thanks to its plug-in compatibility, only a few press jobs with more than 12 megapixels and CMYK outputs may need other thing. The positioning made by Corel as a Web tool is great to avoid competition with other products of the company as it happened with Picture Publisher, but I hope PI will not become a cheap Fireworks instead of THE digital imaging tool for all kind of users.
2. Performance improvement. PI was fast and efficient, a few versions ago lost such qualities until version 12, which got notorious improvements, but it is not enough as can be seen in this forum. By the way, I stop using Corel Suite because it became heavy and buggy, Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 is bloatware, please do not make the same with PhotoImpact.
3. Modify the snap to guides function, transform tools and anti aliasing property. They have never matched with object borders, getting one pixel offset in all directions. I had to stop using PI to draw because of this. Digital design requires pixel accuracy.
4. A new graphic interface to work with histograms (LightZone has a good option). I hate histograms and I do not know a colleague who understands them well. Having an "smart" tool to work with would be fantastic. I am not saying to remove them, just improving their tools.
5. Adjustment of soften edges in selections after they were made for easy masking and region edition. Now the select tools set the soften selection edge before using them, making hard to achieve a smooth transition from the edited region with the rest of the picture. Again LightZone is an example.
6. Better color adjustment interface. I like how DxO Optics Pro makes it, where after picking a color, from there appears a comprehensive automatic tool.
7. Chunks management for the PNG tool. The chance to remove chunks for browser or Windows Vista icons compatibility, review/edit the EXIF information when PNG is used as a postproduction RGB format or simply to clean up the garbage added by programs like Fireworks.
8. Better algorithms in the resizing tool. The current options are good, maybe better than Photoshop, but not as good as fractals or Lanczos. At least it may be included a macro to make stair interpolation, allowing to set the desired algorithm and the number of increments/steps.
9. Non-destructive RAW support. It would be great to have the original sharp and clean pictures in RAW instead of a lot of versions with different formats.
10. Improvement of the support for third party Photoshop compatible plug-ins. Some of them does not work with PI, when they would bring good advanced features.
11. Integration with Content Management System (CMS) for template building. OpenSource CMS are the trend for Web design, professionals (Typo3), portals (Nukes), general purpose (Joomla!,Drupal), e-commerce (OpenSource) and blogs (Wordpress) already have big communities and templates market but no Web design tool has been integrated to them. PhotoImpact's web tools can include some extra tags and frames to make templates for each CMS. Why making simple prototypes like Fireworks, where pictures must be processed with Photoshop and coding with Dreamweaver, when it would be possible to get a fully functional Web site with a single tool?
12. No more wizards. Paint Shop Pro has enough for both programs. Books, discs, e-learning are good but not bloating PhotoImpact.
As you can see, they are all features easy to make for being more or less included in PhotoImpact right now, avoiding featuritis and making true improvements for novice/amateurs and advanced/professional users.

Shortcut for Paint Brush size
Please add a short cut so the brush size can be changed. eg. When using the wheel of the mouse and holding down ctrl like in paintshop pro xi.

New feature requests
I've been using PI since v5 and here are my ideas for improvements: in no particular order
- Non destructive editing and/or adding adjustment layers that could be changed later would be a big improvement.
- Add the ability to type entire paragraphs of text and have left, center, and right justification. I want to use PI to do basic layout of paragraphs and headlines.
- Allow me to put notes in a file and create a history log associated with a photo in UFO format to save information associated with a photo. For example, if I want to go back to a photo and find out what the special effect or sharpening settings were I could look at a text log to see all the changes made to that photo in the order they were applied.
- Please put text labels back on all the controls. Each menu item should have it's own icon as many do not.
- Allow me to create presets for every control and/or always remember my last used settings even after restaring PI. I always use only three different sharpening settings and I would like to pick those from a drop down box instead of manually setting each parameter.
- Please allow vertical text in both top to bottom and bottom to top.
- Every control should have a "reset" button or be able to doubleclick to reset, and arrow buttons for fine adjustments. Sliders are difficult to use to make fine adjustments or to zero a controller like the Hue/Saturation adjustment.
- Put a "delay until" render option. It is frustrating to be adjusting the saturation and have the computer pausing to render. Let me make my adjustments and then render when I'm ready.
- I still don't understand the PI color management and when I turn it on it isn't accurate. I use it all the time in Photoshop with great results
- RAW converter is way off. The images always appear way too dark. I have no problems with Photoshop's RAW or Canon's RAW converters
- Be able to display the histogram without the numerical data to save space on the screen.
- I like the photo frame feature but the frames choices are not good. How about some nice elegant frames
- I'd like to see more variety for photo edges that have more of an upscale look. The choices now are too similar. Maybe a new custom edge creator would be a good idea.
- I want to be able to watermark my images with the FILE NAME. This would let my customers know what image they are looking at and protect them from copying it.
- Allow users to have complete control of print sizes including the ability to hide or delete sizes. Metric sizes which may be useful around the world are not used in the US because you can't get paper or frames in those sizes so I only want to display inch sizes.
- Many of the color adjustment tools are difficult to work with because the preview is too small to see easily, or the controls are tiny (color cast and white balance especially true). I want to adjust color and see a large preview, and preferable a live histogram to see how many white lines may be forming in the histogram with a given change.
- PI needs to be fully compatible with Photoshop plugins. I have some that will not work in PI like those made by Kodak, and Autofx
- I want to be able to fully customize the arrangement and place in folders all of my plugins, including third party plugins so I can order them the way I use them.
- Many controls throughout the program are too coarse and the range is not practical. For example the "Warm" effects filter is much too strong even on the lowest setting.
- There needs to be a good variety of soft focus filters with very fine adjustments. For example in real life a white mesh stocking gives a different look than a glass filter with bubbles.
- Allow the program to make PDF slideshows with and without watermarking of the File name on the image.
- Allow removal of EXIF data for privacy
- Have a feature that let's you take any piece of clip art, resizes it and turns it into a border or a mask.
- Create a resize feature that sharpens an image when it makes it smaller. Currently images that are reduced loose sharpness.
- Allow me to create a list of my favorite fonts and hide the rest.
- Allow the ability to drag and drop adjustments (brightness, contrast, color) from one image onto another or onto a folder of images.
- Let me see a contact sheet showing one image with my favorite 10 special effects applied to it. Then I could choose the one I like.
- Create a faster preview of special effects so I can flip through them quickly and choose the one I want without having to wait.
- In all the help pages, show under which menu item a discussed feature is found. Sometimes you learn about a feature by searching in help but then can't easily find that feature without searching under all the menus and looking for it. Explain all of the features and choices. I had to hunt on the the web to find out that RLE is lossless compression for UFO format.
- Create lossless rotation of JPEG and make it clear that it is indeed lossless. Eliminate rotations that would lose information.
- Create a "burn basket" and "image basket" like ACDSee has
- Automatically put my copyright and web site into every photo I open.
- Let me choose exactly what I want to display in the status bar. Most often it is camera, image dimensions, shutter, aperture, ISO. I need to be able to compare two photos at once and know what the camera settings are for each photo at a glance.
- Create a loupe tool that let's me mouse over parts of the image and see it at 100%. Also add a hand tool to move the image around with. Keep the navigation tool which is great. Create a "pan lock" and "zoom lock" to be able to move around two or more images at the same time. I want to be able to check sharpness and facial expression on various photos simultaneously.
- let me press the same button to toggle between 100% and page fit view so I don't have to hunt around the keyboard for button combinations
- Either dramatically update Photo Explorer and Album or include an existing Corel program that does both in one program.
- Slide show transitions in Album and Photo Explorer are either too fast or too slow given the range of adjustments available. Let me specify to the 1/10 of a second how long I want a transition to last.
- Non destructive editing and/or adding adjustment layers that could be changed later would be a big improvement.
