When I created the tutorial "Making a DVD Menu From Scratch"
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=11378
The one thing that puzzled me was importing existing assets into the PhotoImpact Library was not a simple matter of creating a thumbnail that linked to the asset concerned, instead it duplicated the asset elsewhere on the computer.
This is obviously wasteful of hard drive space. what would be required is something like the Browser (File | Browse) that simply links to the item.

New features:
- Implement Light Studio from PicturePublisher10. Remove features doubled this way.
Changes to existing features:
- Make all dialogs involving image tuning/modification/applying effects resizeable
Other important things:
- Implement installation checker, which can tell if all program files, configuration files and registry entries are correct.
Less important:
- Add more attractive goodies to your applications
General:
- Teach your support personnel to solve technical problems as well.

PI 8, and maybe some other versions as well had maintained the EXIF Data after editing the image, PI 11 has lost that ability, would like to see this feature brought back.
In addition to the return of that feature, it would be nice if there was an option when saving an image to either maintain the EXIF Data, or remove it. Sometimes that info is still needed after editing an image, and other times it's better to remove it, all depending on what it is being used for.

Give us a setting to tone down the white menus, or to set our own menu color.
Make the small toolbar button icons in color like the large ones are.
Staring at a white/gray GUI all day gives a really nice headache and there is no way to customize these colors to anything different.

I wish PI authors looked critically at their automated tools, like Smart Curves, Smart Fix etc. Their results are miserable. Even examples in manual show this. Looke fe. at Enhance Lighting illustration at page 77 of the manual- completely blown out skies. Or Remove Noise filter, which is abysmal compared not only to specialized noise removal tools, but also to PSP or PSE. Or Flatten Uneven Area on page 79.
Guys, what can be said about features if you can't show their quality even in a manual!?!

Here are my request list for the next version:
1. Adoption of IPTC4 standards would be icing on the cake! A lot of web gallery applications use IPTC info to display caption and image information. This would be great for myself and a lot of freelance photographers who use the product to manipulate images and send to clients on deadline.
2. Larger editing tools!!!! 500 pixel max is outdated. Dodging and burning large photos is a pain with such a small brush size. I work with 16x20 and 20x24 prints and trying to do an even d&b. That size might have been fine when cameras were only dooling out 4 megapixel images, but now that the consumer models are in the 6mp range and pro cameras averaging around 8mp, isn't it time to give us a bigger tool to use? Size does matter!
3. Here's one that will have every serious photographer drooling - instead of offering just three control for tone, upgrade to five so that we can control the lower mid-tones and upper mid-tone ranges better. This would be exceptionally handy for portrait work and fine art landscape work.
4. Improved memory handling. It is nearly impossible to work on an image greater than 20x24.
5. Fix the bug with XP that strips IPTC and EXIF information. (This is actually number one on my list). My testing shows that the EXIF info is stripped in PI11 if you are running it on a XP platform. I experience no data or header loss using Win2000. (This should be easy to fix guys)
6. The ability to adjust the curves and interpolate the file to a larger size (or smaller) in the RAW conversion program would be sweet. BTW, the PI RAW converter is da bomb. It'd be a missle if it was just a little faster in processing speed (but I can't complain about it compared to Adobe's crap and some of the other poor excuses of convertors)
7. Finally, it would be nice if the quick command recorder would record the alignment commands and the arrow key keystrokes. It assist those of us who put copyright marks or text on every image or group of images in the same spot by creating a task. It would save a ton of time on my workflow!
Thanks for listening!

I am new to Impact, but have been using the frame feature for a project I am working on. I went thru the frames and found one that I reworked to fit my needs. I changed the size, color, gradient, and shadow to make a really neat frame. Problem came up when I opened the program next morning and had a real hard time re-creating the frame.
How about a way to save these creations by name or number or project.

As I said, I just started using this thing and missed that save part. When I finish this project, maybe I'll have time to actually read the manual, although the help file didn't help. I just created a different frame to experiment. I clicked add, gave it a name and location, hit OK.
I "think" I added the frame to the gallery, but now can't find it. How do I retrieve it?
