Sharing compositor files

Post by tv_news_guy »

Hello all you incredibly talented editors and artists (':D')

I for one am hooked on the Smart Compositor, and the more I think about it, I get excited by what this offers us ULEAD Editors that even the big guys aint got!
Think about it gang. We all gotta work together on this one. Steve J got the ball rolling with his... now it's up to all of us to add to what could become a treasure trove of "ready to adapt" templates that we can all use.
I know ULEAD will be offering their own for sale... and sure, I'll get that one too. But there are hundreds? of us here who use this stuff daily. If we do nothing more than save seperatelyand share the ones we make for our own projects.. DAMN!
Well anyway.. I hope we can keep this topic alive for a while. If you have a compositor file you can add... then please do so. If you have a compositor file but no where to host it.. email me, and I would be glad to host them.
Here is my first one to start.
This one was made for a "Client in the media" presentation. I needed to bring 60 magazines on screen to show all the print the client was getting.
I was lucky to be able to break them down to groups of six and made this little Smart Compositor file to do so.
Here's the linkie thingie http://www.nemediapro.com/sixstack.exe

Thanks Gang

Bill,

I haven't taken the time to look into Smart Compositor but I do plan to. I like the idea of being able to leverage the talents of others, so the more SC files the better.

I downloaded your link and installed it, but can't find the SC files. Where does the install put them and do you know where Ulead stores theirs? I couldn't find either one.

Thanks for you help

Re: Where are the templates?

Hi Dennis,
This is only with MSP8. Open a new or existing project. Go up to Insert on the top and in the pulldown menu is the choice for smart compositor. Once you open compositor you can select a template from the choices on the Left hand side. When you use the pull down menu on the left... you will see the manufacturor installed choices and (if installed) the ones you have added.
If memory serves. There was a quirk that only allowed templates to be added if MediaStudio was not open. So if you installed the new template with MSP8 open. CLose MSP8 and reinstall the template.

Hope that helps

Unfortunately there are problems with the Smart Compositer Designer.
I spent about 3-4 weeks attempting to create a tutorial to complement the one on the Ulead Website.

I would again like to take this opportunity to thank Ron "Vidoman" Peterson for giving up a lot of valuable time and conducting several tests on his computer some 4,500 miles away from my own to confirm my findings which have been passed onto Ulead.

If you want to see the composition created by Bill 'TV_News_Guy"
Run his exe file.
Now open Video Editor.
Select File | Open
Now Navigate to
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8.0\uct_plug\AD9FB23CCFEC850694E4DD25AE1195DA

Here you will find a file named
AD9FB23CCFEC850694E4DD25AE1195DA.dvp
Open this and you can now play the file created by Bill.

Here you will find a further 2 DVP files originally intended to be Smart Compositions. One created by Forum Member Ken Lowther, the other by myself.

Bill is right though, between us we have a lot of talent and we should be sharing these things with each other.

My recomendations for sharing these compositions is to use solid colour blocks to keep the file sizes small, use sounds from the smartsound quicktracks Full spectrum 22k library (We all have that one)
and then share the DVP File.

Do this by making sure everything required is contained in the same folder with smart package and then zip it up.

Bill, I've sent you a PM to explain the problems. The Composition WILL work on your computer but it will not work on anyone elses. This is a bug in the software and not something you have done.

All,

I have a dedicated website for this very purpose. If anyone wants to share their compositions, please consider submitting them to www.videographics.info

I would be more than happy to post them.

I hope this lays to rest the myth that Ulead don't monitor these forums.
I have just received an Email from 'Luke Hsu' product manager of MediaStudio Pro requesting details of the problems I discovered.

They hope to include any necessary fixes into SP1.
My apologies to MSP8 users if this delays the release of SP1 but I am sure you would rather wait a short time longer for all known problems to be fixed.

Bill,
I puzzled over that one also. The original posting of my 6 smart compositions did though show that they failed to work for some users and not others. I then found a way of sharing them using a zip file method.
Please view:

I am hopeful that now I have been able to pass an email directly to the MediaStudio Pro manager at Ulead that the problems will get sorted out so that we can share these compositions.

I am fully with you in hoping our forum members will share these worthwhile items.
