Music Video

Post by SPJ29 »

I may be wrong but I thought that VS9 could create videos that play to the beat of music.

Is this possible because at the moment I use ACD Videomagic which does create music videos but this only creates mpeg1 which means re-encoding to mpeg2, very very time consuming.

If you mean you are creating a slideshow and want the slides to change with the beat of the music then there isn't an option to do that automatically you can of course set it up manually.

You may wish to try Proshow Gold. This can create an MPG file with slides that change with the beat of the music wher you set up the slides and then play the slideshow, listening to the music and pressing the spacebar each time you want a slide to change.

You could then use VideoStudio or one of the other Ulead products to author that MPG file into a DVD.

No I dont mean musical slideshows.

I would like to create a video with pictures and then add music to it, after which the software would analyze the video and make the video fit the music.

As I said earlier I currently use ACD Videomagic but this only creates mpeg1 videos.

VS10 will automatically fit your slide show to music (as I understand it - haven't tried it yet). VS9 will not do that. However, VS9 does allow you to increase/decrease the length of a music file, without changing the pitch. This works best when the increase/decrease is minimal. I found it sounded "funny" if the time added/reduced was too large.

As I'm writing this I'm realizing that you may be talking about SmartSound. If you add a SmartSound file to your project then, yes, it will fit the length of your project and fade out appropriately. But again, the shorter the better because SmartSounds basically repeat themselves and it can get monotonous. You can always use more than one though.

Moreover, you only get some 20-something free samples of SmartSound music with the program. To buy extra costs a whopping US$99 per disc!! So that option is really limited.

I bought some extra smartsound and as Ken states most of it is expensive.
The following pack is in my opinion perhaps a worthwhile investment considering the normal cost of these smartsound CD's and really increases the power and potential of your movie making.

* Cutting Edge
* Family
* Kids

Most interesting, Steve, I haven't looked at the SmartSound website for quite a while. Are all the discs in that set 44k or 22k?

These are 22k but are still worth it.
The expensive singles you mention are 44k.

For the majority of our members probably doing their holiday videos etc. I think they would be more interested in bulk rather than quality to build up a library of alternative smartsound music.

The Smartsound that is included with the Ulead (and other video editing) products is 22k.

The Professionals amongst us who are able to pass on to customers the costs involved in purchasing the tools of their trade may perhaps be more interested in the rather more expensive 44k collections.
