How to capture still image in original proportions?

Post by cmenard »

I want to use stills from my movie on my DVD label and my DVD case. I use the "Save as Still Image" button. The resulting bitmap image is distorted -- it's too short vertically. How can I capture still images without distorting them?

Thank you!

Hi

There is two options to saving an image from your video.

1 / From the ‘clip’ frame

2 / From the ‘project’ frame.

Select timeline view.

Select a frame in clip mode, Clip—Save as still image.

Or

Select a frame in project mode, Tools—Save current frame as image

I think you may need the last option, Tools--Save current frame as image

Hope this Helps

Not sure if I understand your problem, the image from your DVD is in a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio (depending on your source material). That means your image is wider than it is high, rectangular, not square. Your CD lable is square

I used my photo editing software* to make some “blank” backgrounds. One has the proportions of a CD jewel box front, another for the back, one for a DVD case front/back, and one 4x3 for when the destination is video.

I open the blank file, and then paste-in the image. I use the blank-background as a cropping-guide, or I’ll allow the background to show from behind the image to make a frame with correct proportions.

* I have Microsoft Picture It and JASC/Corel Paint Shop Pro
