Convert your slideshow for PC CD

Post by kmoran »

I have created a DVD slideshow, but now I want to take the same slideshow and create a CD that plays on a PC, the same way that the DVD plays in a DVD player. I want to do this because I want to give the CDs to several foreign students from all around the world, and I want them to be able to view them at home on their computers. (It would be too difficult to convert the DVD for every kid.) How do I package/burn the slideshow on a CD so it plays with the menu and everything on a pc?

Welcome to the PS4 forum kmoran. If you saved your project file (.DPS) as well as your original content, all you need to do is launch PS4 and open the project (file > open > your_project_name.DPS). Next, select your choice of VCD or SVCD (dropdown, lower left corner of the "1 Organize" tab). Finally, go to the "3 Burn" tab and burn your slideshow to a CD-R. Note that "motion menu" effects are not available for VCD/SVCD projects.

Will the SVCD format play on a computer without a DVD Drive? That is the essential problem - I need something that will play on a computer without a DVD drive. That will appear essentially like the DVD - but not needing a DVD player.

To the best of my knowledge a VCD would have the highest compatibility with PC and MAC. Essentially the computer must have the MPEG 1 codec which in the case of a stock PC would be provided by WMP or Quicktime for the MAC. Based on my limited knowledge of the VCD format, the menu portion of your presentation will be a variable depending on the player software. For example, if I play a VCD containing multiple slideshows with WMP, the menu is not displayed at all. Rather, the slideshow content will simply autoplay in sequence with a brief pause between each show. If I play the same VCD with PowerDVD 6, the menu is displayed as a static image, more like a title card than an interactive menu. In other words, the menu is without motion and the navigation buttons are not functional. To begin playing the presentation content I must click the play button on the player software UI and then (like WMP) the slideshows will autoplay in sequence. So essentially the menu is a question mark however the slideshow content is likely to play on most any computer but without the ability to control the navigation.

Maybe others will have sometimg to add but this has been my experience to date.

Thank you for your replies. I'm bummed, I had hoped that the menu would be there on either format... but it's better than nothing! Thank you!

No prob! BTW, in re-reading my last posting I may have used the term "autoplay" out of context since it implies that the VCD would automatically begin playing when inserted in a CD-ROM drive. To clarify, depending on the user's player software and/or system configuration they might have to press the PLAY button to start playback. Once playback has begun the entire disc will play in sequence as I previously mentioned. Sorry for any confusion on that :-)
