cut a part out of video

Post by mikestb »

Hi
(Media Studio Pro 7, Update patch 3)
very often I have some big videos, 30min or 60min. I'd like to capture the video in one file (to go away from the PC during capture e.g.) -this is no problem.
But, if I have the one file, I would like to cut some parts out of the video. That means, I want to insert the one file in the editor, then mark a part and just cut out. So do this some times to get the "good" parts left and "bad parts" cutted out. Not to insert again, and add a part.

Is it possible?

Thanks
Mike

Of course it is. :)

Go along your timeline until you find where you want to scrap some footage, place your cursor where you want it, press the S key. Advance to the end of the scrap footage and do the same. Then click on the scrap footage to select it and press delete. Repeat the process, until you have only wanted footage.

Alternatively, select Split by Scene and this will cut your footage at every change of scene. You can then select the scenes to delete.

If you select Ripple Editing, as you delete a scene, it will automatically close the gap. Alternatively, you can use Find empty time slots to do it semi-manually.

Hi Mike to put it simple Yes put the video clip on to the time line and go to the beginning part that you won’t to remove using the cut tool cut the video at this point, go to the end of the clip that you won’t out and cut it, now left click on the bit you won’t to remove and press delete.

This is not the best way to work with video editing I shoot a lot of wield life some times the camera is left running for a long time with not much happening. So the method I use is to pre edit the tape, watch the tape and only capture the interesting bits saves on hard drive space too. If you name the file ending in a number and turn on automatic file name vidcap will increment the name I.e. (myvido0001).
