Failed to connect:USB 2860 Device

Post by Anjelica »

I apologise up front for any misuse of terminology or if my question seems really basic.

I am new to all this stuff and I am trying to copy my VHS tapes onto my hard drive so I can convert to mp4 to play on my Ipod.

As this is a one-off project I want to keep costs down and I do not have a spare PCI slot and so I have bought a Gadmei UTV330 USB TV Box.

Along with the TV Box came Gadmei's own software for capturing the images

Everthing was going well and I was recording the sound and images off my VHS tapes but when I went to play them back there was only minutes of footage. Out of a two hour recording only the last 21 mins was in the file. I am not sure whether there is a maximum file size or not?

Anyway, I was not happy with this and so bought DVD Movefactory 5 as it said it would copy from video devices and also because I can create chapters, cut clips etc etc.

I have installed the software and opened Ulead to create a new project but I get the error message 'failed to connect : USB 2860 Device'.

The device is working ok using Gadmei's software so I assume the drivers are all ok etc etc so I was wondering whether someone could tell me how I can get Ulead DVD MF5 to recognise the TV Box.

If you need more info to answer the question, please let me know altho I do have to admit that NTSC/PAL thingy really confuses me!!

Anyway, it would be great if someone could give this newbie some much needed help and advice

Cheers

the right question :
Is there a "generic driver" for USB 2.0 capture device?
Only Ulead or the experts could answer....
Ulead have made a driver for my USB box device capture ADSTech this one was included in Moviefactory 3 SE. But now with Movie Factory 5 it is not include.
So the question: Is there a generic driver USB 2.0 ?

That would be a good thing to have a generic usb 2.0 video driver spec like the firewire Ieee1394.

For best results use the capturing software that came with your hardware device and then import the videos into MF using the import feature.

As a suggestion look at the "DVD Compliant" Templates in MF or any video program and write them down.
Then when you use your capturing software that came with the hardware device make the settings the same as the templates. This way you are capturing the video as a dvd compliant video. It will not need to be re-rendering or altered to immediately burn to dvd.
Unless you edit the video /trim/cut/transisions etc. Then a new mpeg file needs to be created before burning to the dvd.

Example: I can capture a 1 hour TV show or VHS tape using my capturing card and it's supplied software. It's captured as a dvd compliant Mpeg2 file. Then I import that into MF. Click on the Gear Icon, Make sure "Do not convert compliant files" is checked ON. Then make menus & burn the dvd.
It's the fastest & easiest method.

Hope this helps,

I would prefer to use the capturing software of MF5 because the software of my hardware device is only mpeg2 with PCM sound.
Result: I am obliged to convert each file from PCM sound to AC3....!!!!and a big waste of time

Do you think when we cut the beginning and the end of a file "DVD compliant" , MF5 reencode the file before burning to DVD (even if "do not convert compliant file is checked on)

Thanks everyone for your help so far.

In the end, last night I used the device software to burn the image to hard drive. But, because the software does not capture the whole video, I had to record each track (it's a music compilation) individually.

What I was hoping to do was record the 2 hour tape as one big file and then cut it into smaller segments. This seems impossible to achieve using the device software.

Is there a max size file that can be created? I first copied the whole 2 hr tape in but only caught the last five mine, then but the first hour in adn only caught the last 21 mins, then I gave up and did each track individually

Is there any box I can tick to allow the software to create the full 2 hr video?

Any help and advice would be great as I do want to copy documentaries/films etc and therefore need the whole video as one file

Cheers

didierrp,

If you cut/trim the beginning or ends then a new mpeg2 file must be re-created.
To do this without loss of quality in the video and use the smart-render feature simply highllight the edited video on the timeline, click on "Export" and select "Fast Export".
That will use the settings in the file.

If you JOIN any video then use the "Fast Export DVD Compliant" feature and make sure
that the "Project Properties" equal the settings of the source files or the settings you want in the final dvd.
