I'm using the trial version of Movie Factory 5.
I'll capture video from my VCR or from my TV tuner. After capture, when I play it back, the audio stutters. The best way that I can describe the sound: like those BB machine guns in a penny arcade. It doesn't do it during the entire playback; some of the audio is good. The stuttering is intermittent.
The sound is normal when I capture video in Sonic MyDVD or Nero Ultra 6. (But, those apps stop capturing video if the tracking on my old tapes is not accurate.)
Any ideas on the audio stuttering? Maybe my hardware?
Pentium III 933 mhz
512 mb RAM
Asus CLUS2 mobo
ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon
SB Live! soundcard
Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you are dropping frames during the capturing process.
I would use the All in wonder software to capture your tapes.
Your processor is borderline for capturing direct to mpeg2 dvd compliant video. The ATI capturing software is written specifically for the hardware chipsets on the capture card. I will be easier on your processor for capturing and the capturing software will display any dropped frames. That would be the "ATI personnel video recorder".
The configuration screen is accessible when your in the TV/Preview screen (one of the icons on the controller).
After you capture the video to the harddisk then you can Import it into any video editing program MF etc.
If you capture using MF capture as VCD or SVCD format. If it works then your processor can't keep up. The VCD format is less demanding but less resolution.
Hope this helps,
MD

Maddrummer.
Your recommendation to use ATI Multimedia helped. The video is smoother and the audio "stuttering" is resolved as a result.
The VOLUME of the captured audio is quite low. On playback I have to max out the volume control.
I'm recording at the highest quality settings in ATIMMC.
Any thoughts on how to resolve?
Thanks much.

I don't know what soundcard your using but the slider your looking for is the
"Recording Slider" for the "Line-In" port on the souncard.
The mini-plug that gets plugged into your Line-In of the soundcard is the audio coming from the card going into the soundcard.
To increase the recording volume you can use your soundcards mixer or winodws mixer.
The windows mixer is confusing because you have to goto the top menu, select advanced or properties (one of those). Then select "Recording" to access the sliders for recording.
Also when you initialize the ATI capture software you should have assigned the correct port to record the audio on. Usually Line-In. If you didn't do that you may have to run the initialization program again.
