An error log is being created.

Make sure you have the latest patches installed. If you do, uninstall, reboot and reinstall.

I finally solved my problem. After uninstalling, cleaning system of all references to ulead & reinstalling with no luck. It finally occured to me that in trying to solve a ulead codec problem I had installed a bunch of codec's.
I just removed them all & VS8 now loads properly. Of course I'm not sure which codec was the problem but I think I will leave that for another day. :-)

I think it is really a problem of codec packs. After removing K-lite codec pack, everything runs well now.
