No Sound on DVDs Help needed please

Post by -db- »

Hello all..

I am fairly new to creating DVDs (which I am LOVING!) and have run into a problem. In DVDWS, I can create a DVD with menus, ets and when I preview it before I burn it to disk, the sound is perfect in all my features. But, after it's burned, when I play it on my DVD player, there is no sound. Here is what I did...

- I created several video files from VideoStudio and saved them into MPEG2 format
- I imported them into DVDWS, created a couple menus and linked to the files.
- I added sound to the menus directly from DVDWS
- I preview them before I burn to disk and all sound in all features works fine.
- I burn them to DVD and only the sound on the actual menu plays. When I try to play a feature (that's linked) there is no sound. Again, the sound is fine on my computer when previewing...

I have went through about 10 DVDs tring differnet settings and am now becoming a little frustrated. Here are the setting I have tried all NTSC DVD:

1. Standard Play template burning at 4x and 8x
2. Modified Play template with 100% quality compression MPEG audio 224 kbpsc burning at 8x and 4x
4. High Quality template burning at 8x and 4x
5. Good Quality template burning at 8x and 4x

Sometimes I get an unspecified Error and sometimes it completes successully but then when I try to watch one of the features on the disk on my DVD player, there is no sound. BUT....there is sound in the background on the menus that I've created...just not the actual features. I am out of options so hopefully someone may know what I am doing wrong and help. I am sure it's user error...

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Thanks!

The NTSC DVD spec does not officially support mpeg audio (layer-2), only wav or ac3. Which means that your NTSC DVD player does not have to support mpeg audio. Try converting the audio to ac3 instead and see what happens. I'm guessing that your menu audio is either ac3 or wav already, or Workshop is automatically converting it to one of the two during the authoring process, and that is why you can hear it when playing your dvd.

Thanks for the quick response. That's good information to know so now I won't choose that option. I was just trying different options so that's good to know.

These "features" were created in VideoStudio and converted to video files as NTSC MPEG2 format with sound. I will give it another try...

Thanks for the tip on converting the sound file. That was it! I converted the sound file in VideoStudio to .wav and then used that sound file in DVDWS over the actual videos.

All sounds good on DVD now. Thanks again!

Have a GREAT day all....
