DVD Mediastudio 8 Video Editing Techniques question?

Post by nutsnbolts »

I have a quick question regarding techniques. I have approximately 6 DV tapes that spans a trip I went to for 2 weeks. Pretty much 2 days for every tape.

Obviously, I want to make a condensed movie about it but should I be making day by day scenes and then joining all together to make one big scene or do I make one big project and import all 6 tapes together and go from there?

It seems logical to make it smaller and then join them all together? Just to alleviate confusion?

Please help

Hi,

6 Tapes to record/edit is a fair amount of work.

Personnally I would start with only 2 tapes and work with them to create a dvd.
Editing 6 tapes you will have a dvd size limitation.

To achieve the best video rule of thumb is 1 - 4.7gig single-sided dvd per 1 hour of tape.

I would first work with 2 tapes.
This will help you decide what to do with the complete project.

The fastest method to complete a project with 6 tapes is record them onto a dvd recorder and then import the dvd's into MF.
Either way be prepared for alot of work.
A dvd recorder will let you quickly create dvd's to preview and decide how to plan the complete project.

That's a good point.

Actually I have 6 tapes which I want to condense into 1 DVD.

The question I guess is, how many hours can I fit into 1 DVD this way I know exactly how much time I have to work with in 1 DVD.

I know the lower the quality the more room??? But what is the general rule of thumb?

Rule of thumb is to use the preset template for 2 hours of standard video per single sided dvd. OR, 4 hours of standard video on a double-sided dvd.

So your project would take 3 single sided dvd's or
1 double-sided dvd
1 single-sided dvd

Dvd recorders. do have a 6 hour/6tapes mode. You can use a rewriteable dvd and experiment. They are great units.

You can also import the dvd's into MF or VS and edit them for custom dvd's.

ok goodie, so 2 hours of DVD time that I have for 6 tapes.

Basically the video I took are very repetitive and different angles of similar things. Kept in mind that i was making a movie so watching the 6 tapes gets boring.
