VS10+ and having more than one PC

Post by kgs »

Is it possible/allowable to install VS10+ on more than one computer--such as my PC and my laptop? Some companies do allow this for their products--Microsoft's EULA for Office allows one desktop and one laptop, for example, since so many of us toggle between machines.

I suspect that may be a question you should not have asked. The official answer is probably: no you can't install on more than one computer. But the practical answer is probably along the lines adopted by your armed forces: don't ask, don't tell!!!

This is part of the End User Licence Agreement found in your Set up files
in a file named "licence.txt"
Item 2 of the End User Licence Agreement reads as follows:

2. Use of the Software: You May:(1) use the Software on any single computer, provided that the Software is in use on only one computer at a time. The software is " in use" on a computer when it is loaded into the temporary memory(i.e. RAM) or installed into the permanent memory (i.e. hard disk) of that computer. (2) make a single copy of the Software solely for backup or archival purposes. (3) permanently transfer all your rights to use the Software to another person or legal entity provided that you transfer this Agreement, the Software, and all accompanying written materials, provided that you retain no copies of the Software or written materials and that the other party agrees to the terms of this License Agreement. You May Not: (1) make, or have made, any form of copy, whether digital, printed, photographic or otherwise, of the Software, except insofar as such Software may be incorporated by you into on-screen or printed material. (2) place, or have placed the Software on an electronic bulletin board or other form of on-line service. (3) use, or have used, the Software in any form of pornography, or in any matter which is in any way defamatory of any person or business entity in any such image, or which implies any form of endorsement by the Software, its suppliers, its licensors, or any individual or entity depicted in the Software . (4) reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble or otherwise attempt to discover the source code of the Software. (5) modify, adapt, translate, rent, lease, loan or create derivative works from the Software. (6) export the Software in any form without the appropriate United States and foreign government licenses.

Thanks. In truth, I probably don't want it on my laptop anyway... but wanted to know.

I had an additional installation question related to this that I forgot to ask. I'm hoping/guessing from this EULA that if I change PCs and uninstall the software, it won't be hard to reinstall. This is not a theoretical question--I'm probably getting a new PC next month (woohoo!), but about six weeks after Ulead expires. The way some products work, the serial number will only work on one machine at a time, but if I uninstall from machine A I can then register on machine B. Some other products are not that straightforward--some are downright cantankerous, but if I paid for it I'm not abandoning it. (I'm now making a list and checking it twice.) If it's a hassle, I'll wait on the VS10+ installation and use Nero in the meantime.

If you purchased the FULL ESD version of VS10+ then it's easy.
Have fun with the program. Unless you have many hands you won't use both machines at the sametime.

You may have a problem if you activated a trial version or purchased an upgrade. Then you will need the serial numbers from the previous version.
As far as the trial version being activated you would have to install that and activate it again.
