splitting by scene doesn't work well

Post by bhales »

When I use split by scene, more than half the scenes get dropped. Does anyone know why? I'm using video studio 9 and a Panasonic DV camera. (I previously used a JVC camera and had the same results.) I want to split by scene to make it quicker to create my video file, but I can't figure out why it ignores large portions of the video on the tape. The video is captured, it just won't split. If this option doesn't work well, what's the alternative to take a DV tape and split it into the various scenes I taped?

For split by scene to work you have to connect your camcorder to the computer with an IEEE1394 firewire cable. It will then detect each time that during filming your camcorder was turned on/off and treat those points as scenes.

Please update your system specifications on your profile page.

I think the problem is with the degree of sensitivity that the program uses to distinguish between scenes, rather than the connection. I interpreted the original post to mean that some scenes are split, but larger ones, which in fact contain several scenes, remain intact.

It would seem to be a sensitivity issue. Some scenes are found, others not. I did have the camera attached with the IEEE 1394. I tried the DV Quick Scan instead and it worked much better.
