Green screen

As I understand it, you'll need VS 9 or 10 to do this. Try downloading the 10plus demo - you'll have 30 days to play around with it. Works quite well - put your main video on the second channel, choose the colour to make transparent, and you'll see whatever image is on the main timeline behind it.

To add to Phil's reply,

Green Screen or Chroma Keying as it is known, involves a bit more. First you should have a solid even color screen to film your subject(s) in front of. The most important aspect is Lighting. You need to make sure you have proper lighting, no shadows, for the Chroma-Key to work effectively. You can end up with a Halo around your subject, or even colors removed from your subject, if they happen to be wearing clothing that has some of the color in it.
I know to get good clean chroma-key, garbage mattes are often used, to clean up reminants around the subject.

Also Phil is correct, Chroma-Key was first introduced with VS9, and is also available in VS10 +.
