But when I go to the Preview step (clicking on the little remote control in VS10), my menu button changes color - usually yellow (I assume to show that it's active). It seems no matter what menu background I choose, the color of the menu buttons is innappropriate. Just white or black would work for me in most cases. Am I missing a way to change that? Is that something that can be controlled by making my own buttons in PhotoImpact, or will they change too, once they become "active"?

Menu Issue...Again
I thought this issue might have been resolved with VS10, but it hasn't.
In Share, Create Disc, when I am choosing a menu template, it also allows me to change the menu buttons. Basically they are white or black, which is fine.

I just took a look.
Firstly in PhotoImpact yes you can alter the Menu Buttons as per my Tutorial and with the Menu Design Tool (PhotoImpact) you can specify the 3 button states unselected, selected, activated.
Back to VS10, On the Menu Selection Screen click the Edit Tab.
Then the Customize button.
Now from the drop down list "Navigation button."
As you said they are nearly all black and white but there are two others named N006 and N009. Not much choice I know.
If you have VideoStudio9 you can import some more buttons from there.
Firstly navigate to
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 9.0\Template\4_3\Customize\Navigation Button
Select all of the files in this folder and copy them to a temporary folder.
Now to avoid naming conflicts with Version 10 rename those files eg
v9001.ufo
v9002.ufo
....
v9010.ufo
Now again copy them and paste into
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 10\Content\Menu Template\4x3\Customize\Navigation Button
Now restart VideoStudio10 and you will find these extra buttons including brown ones, orange ones, yellow ones, pinkish ones etc.
