Video Sudio 10 Plus demo wont see HDTV files

Post by Thespian »

G'day,

I have downloaded a copy of VS10+ which is supposed to be capable of editing HDTV files. Each time I try to select the HDTV files the program locks up and stops responding. I had the identical problem with the VS9 demo.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Is it occuring because of some restriction in the demo version?
Has anyone used VS10 plus (full or demo version) to edit HDTV files?

Regards,

Sorry, but I don't know if the TBYB version of 10+ does HD. But the full version certainly does - very well. It captures in mpeg2 program stream, playback of edited HD is very sharp and smooth even through transitions.

Edit: To test the TBYB version, drop an Mpeg2 HD video clip in an empty 10+ timeline and let VS set the project properties to match. Hit the play button and see if it plays. Open the menu File/Project Properties and if it shows HD properties: e.g., 25Mbps video bitrate, etc.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I can't load a HDTV file into the time line as the program just locks up.

However your reply gives me confidence in buying the full version of VS10+.

Thanks again for your reply. Greetings from Oz.

If your files have an extension of .ts or .tp you have convert the file using either Womble or HDTVtoMPEG2.

I have a DVICO HDTV tuner/capture card and was suprised to find out that none of the Ulead products support the .ts or .tp format, when you try to open one of these files the program just locks up.

You can download Womble demo.
http://www.womble.com/
HDTVtoMPEG2 is free.

I really like HDTVtoMPEG2 to convert my flies, its faster than anything I've used for HD files and it has a accureate commercial remover.

If your tuner/capture device is a DVB-T then the files it creates should be usable in Video Studio, if they are captured with Video Studio capture module. If you use the software that came with the capture card you will have to convert the files.

Hi Tyamada,

Thanks for reply. I have tried Womble without success and have downloaded a copy of HDTVtoMPEG2 but haven't tried it yet. You were right in your asessment, I did use the software supplied with the VisionPlus TV card. However I can open SD files created with the card's S/W but not HD. I have tried PVAStumento to try to convert the HD files but I have only had success with SD files. I'll try HDTVtoMPEG2 next and let you know if I'm successful. Thanks again.

I don't know if this will help you or not.UleadStudio Plus does a outstanding job on play back of HD. I have the Sony FXI HD Camcorder and when downloading at 1080i it looks sweet. When I burn it on a DVD and do a playback using MS Player with Pure Video set up the video looks glass clear. Ulead can also do a retake in 740x480 for the ones who don't own a HD DVD Player. I also use Vegas6 for editing my video's but for coping to a DVD I like Ulead's set up.To give you a example I filmed my grand daughter and wife at a skating rink in 1080i. Set the record to be downloaded at 1080i/1440x1080....I viewed the file and it was crystal sharp clear. I then recored it to a DVD at 720x480..it was clear and nice but not as sharp as 1080i. The 1080i has a lot more depth of field with more of a 3D effect. I know you are asking yourself why I didn't use the Sony Vegas 6 to record my project on a DVD...Well for a six hundred dollar program you would think it could record a DVD but it can only do a standard CD...LOL.What gets me about the Sony Vegas6 is that all video's that are in playback mode in 1080i are huge files when you add music in the back ground and other titles. A 30 minute film in 1080i with all the extras added is well over a gig....no CD will handle a file that big.Sony does have software you can get to do a HD DVD but I like what I read about the UleadStudio Plus. They are both about the same price. Sony has a few more filters but Unlead is a bit more easy to use.Nvidia has come out with a beta 91.28 video driver with the new panel, it works great with Pure Video viewed in HD. I know other like others programs for viewing HD on there computer but I like the MS Windows using XP Pro..Mike
