Creating an mpg-4 movie

Post by pbokros »

I am presently operating MSP V8 with the MP4 Plug In. My operating system is WinXP Pro.

My question is this. When I am working with an mpg-2 movie and want to create a new mpg-2, I match the Frame Rate, Frame Type and Video Data Rate to the movie I have imported and have great success.

When I work with the same mpg-2 movie and want to create a mpg-4 movie I cannot find out how to match my mpg-2 settings with the Frame Rate, Frame Type and Data Rate for the mpg-4 codec. Are there any guidelines or is it trial and error?

Thank you for your time

MPEG4 is Frame based and intended for sharing video content via the internet or to be played in special MPEG4 players.

for more detailed information please view:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/technologies/mpeg4/

MPEG2 is a more general purpose format and is used to create DVD VOB files (amongst other things) MPEG2 can be frame based or field based dependant upon the source material and intended output.

Output only to a computer monitor can be frame based but most MPEG2 files are used to create a standard DVD (Which would then be viewed on a standard television set) and so should be field based according to the method of capture.

I have purchased the MPEG 4 output plug in, but I can not find the option on how to use it. I would appreciate someone giving advice on what I am missing. I have been able to find the MPEG4 option in the capture application; however, I can not seem to find it in the editor.

Thank you,
Bob

It is as you correctly put it an output plug-in.
With your edited video on the timeline go to the share tab and select
Create Video file. You will now have additional options to save in MPEG4 file format.
