Post by rumboy »

Hi, i need urgent help... i installed MSP 8.0 on my new laptop, centrino duo core 1.6ghz with FAT 32 80gb harddrive and 1 gb ram. i can install it. Every thing works fine except vedio editor. When i double click it or open it, the cursor shows it's busy but within 3-4 secs, there is no reponse. No error message nor any programmes. The task manager show that veditor.dat is running but within 3 secs the veditor.dat vanishes from the processes tab. The desktop remains the same. Video capture and audio editor works fine. i've even tried msp pro 7.0 and the trial versions. Not working. Pls .. i'm a student who does vedio editing. i need help immediatly.....

Thk you.

Nothing to do with your problem, but I do recommend you change your HDD from FAT32 to NTFS, otherwise you will be limited to very short clips (4 Gb).

Try uninstalling (including everything with the folder 8.0 in Docs & Settings\... and, if you are able, in the registry after backup) and re-installing. If you downloaded the app, check that the size of the file is correct (no. of bytes) before re-installing. Check that you have DirectX installed correctly. If it still doesn't work, I suggest you will have to start looking for conflicts, which is a lot trickier. If you have installed anything else that can modify DirectX from the MS standard, then this could explain your problem.

If nothing at all seems to work, the sledge hammer may be necessary. Use it by saving any data you need to keep to a backup medium. Reformat your C: partition. Reinstall Windows and essential drivers (you probably have a CD which does all this with an image file). Then install MSP8 and check that it works OK. Then install all your other apps, checking that MSP still works, keeping a System restore file between each one. If you find it stops working, then you have found your conflict (some games can seriously modify DX).

Before you uninstall, try turning off DEP (Data Execution Prevention) for VEDITOR.EXE:

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Performance -> Settings -> Data Execution Prevention.
