After having the same error 5003 problem with MF3 & VS7 as many others in these forums (error message upon reaching the DVD burning step), I did some investigating as I knew my MPG file was OK because I had previously burned a DVD with MF3 using the exact same MPG file. Something changed on my system to now cause the error 5003 when reaching the DVD writing step. I don't know what.
Turns out that I can successfully create DVD folders instead of burning the DVD, then use the copy disc utility to copy the DVD folders to the DVD. It is an extra step but at least it lets me create DVDs.
Despite the error message ("source file had problems"), the root of the problem appears to be MF3 & VS7's inability to access the DVD drive. Fortunately the copy utility still can, so that is a viable workaround for now.
Error 5003

Do you have any "packet writing software" running - thats the software that allows you to drag and drop files from window explorer onto your CD/DVD disc?[/quote]
Yes: InCD. However, I definitely remember being able to write to the DVD from MF3SE (I have SE not the full version) before.
What may have happened is that a couple of months ago I uninstalled InCD then reinstalled it. Before this, MF3SE & VS7SE were installed after the original Nero install. Perhaps the reinstallation may have caused a conflict. It will take some time to debug this, as I'll have to disable InCD (assuming stopping the InCD helper service will accomplish this, otherwise I'll have to uninstall InCD again - rather not do that because I need InCD).
I have some more DVDs to burn, so I'll report back in a couple of days if disabling InCD has any effect. I haven't tried reapplying any ULead patches since several others have reported trying that, all with no effect on the problem.

OK, this evening I disabled the "InCD helper" service & tried burning another DVD+RW using MF3SE. No problems with direct burning this time. Even threw in an MPEG1 file in with the two MPEG2 files just to up the difficulty factor :) .
At some point I'm going to try re-enabling InCD & see if I can't get it & the ULead software to get along. In the meantime disabling the InCD helper service before burning DVDs seems to be the answer.

Nero InCD is known that it will conflict with Ulead burning products and make Ulead products not able to burn.

Well I thought I had this figured out, but as of this morning I'm right back where I started. Nero InCD is completely disabled yet I'm unable to burn directly to DVD (error 5003 again right at the DVD burner access step); I have to burn the DVD files to disk first, then copy them. It's as if some other application is still "grabbing" the DVD drive but now I can't find it.
Any other ideas, or is it really time to look for an alternative product?

Did you also disable your copy of Roxio?
It may be worth listing here any other CD writing software you have installed. If possible paste a screen capture of your running process list
