Loop cue menus, adding buttons and frames - some answers

Post by newmediallc »

Hi All -

Thought I'd share some things I've learned regarding a couple of issues I'm having with DVD MovieFactory 5. Telehpone tech support at Ulead sounds like they need a few pots of coffee, stat - never talked to such a sleepy crowd in my life! And some info they've given me has been flat-out wrong. But...

1. COPYING BUTTONS AND FRAMES FROM PRIOR DVDMF VERSIONS INTO VERSION 5. We really got cheated on the button/frame selection in Version 5 - it's really skimpy. Twice in the last week I called tech support and asked if I can port these elements from version 4 to version 5 and was told "no, it cannot be done." Wrong - it's easy. Just locate the folder which contains the elements you want in the v4 install directory and copy them to the corresponding location in the v5 directory. A couple of notes: you'll want to change the file names in such a way that one set does not partially or completely overwrite the other, as the files use simple sequential names like btn001, btn002, etc. Also, the directory structures differ from version to version, so you'll need to poke around a bit to find where you need to copy things from/to. And finally, you'll likely end up with some duplicate buttons and frames on the customize menu, as Ulead has not used a consistent name for a particular style and kept it that way between versions. But at least you'll have some variety back!

2. LOOP CUE MENUS. I am in the midst of hashing this out with tech support now. According to the website details on DVDMF 5, with loop cue menus, "a menu can start, play a short piece first, and then loop from there." As far as I can tell after working with the software and reading the manual, this feature does not exist. I've talked twice to telephone support, and I maintain that somebody over there needs to do a Starbucks run for these people - wake up! Anyway, a fellow whom I suspect is a developer finally wrote me back, claiming that the loop cue menu is really just the "menu in" portion of the new menu transitions (which are very cool, by the way). I say nu-uh - as presented on the website writeup at http://www.ulead.com/dmf/features.htm, loop cue menus and menu transitions are completely separate features, and I bought the upgrade based on the development of the former. So I'm waiting for his response, and I'll keep you posted...

I have copied part of your post into our useful tips section

Please keep us updated with the looping menu thumbnails. If you get this resolved/working I can add that to the tip.
