transitions in ulead video studio 10

Post by howied »

I just downloaded the trial version.
So far I agree very superior to version 9 except that there are less transitions
Can someone tell me, if I pay for the version will I have access to extra content.
For example I liked the album transitions but they seem to be absent

The trial only contains tasters. There are more when you purchase.
You can also use any transitions, filters menus, backdrops sound effects etc. you may have in earlier versions of VideoStudio.
You can also import menus from other Ulead products MovieFactory, Picture Show, DVD Workshop.

That sounds strange. I seem to have about the same number of transitions in VS10+ as in VS9. However, as Steve has just said, it has been Ulead's practice not to include all the transitions in trial versions.

The significant omission in VS10+ seems to be the Album transition, which Ulead appear to have dropped -- or, at least, I can't find it. As you may know, a lot of people seemed to have difficulty with the Album ones in VS9 in particular, as well as in VS8 when IIRC they were first introduced (though they worked perfectly for me in VS8). It's a shame since it was a potentially very useful transition effect, and it's a pity they dropped it rather than iron out the problems with it. There is a similar effect in the Canopus F/X transitions which I use in VS9 and now 10 with a special plug-in. And it works well -- the downside, though, being that you have to buy these transitions.

Thats strange Ken - - my boxed version of V10+ has given me 7 'Album' transitions - accessible via 'Album' under the 'Transitions' library.

If you have prior versions of VS you can copy the "Album Transition" files and paste to VS10+.

I have just finished installing all of my Ulead Software onto my New Hard Drive. Just like Brian said, there are 7 transitions in the Album folder.

Please see the response I received from customer support

Question/Problem: I just installed the trial version of videostudio 10 plus. It seems that there are alot less transitions . Specifically there is no album transitions.
Are their more transitions if I activate the product and how do I get them?
Do I redownload another version?

Yes, when you activate the program the program will also allow you to use other video transition. Ulead made the installation file to be minimal in size so that program can be easier to download by the users who wants to try the software. If you wish to utilize all the features, you may opt to upgrade your software to UVS 10 (full or upgrade version) with lesser cost. For details on the latest version of Ulead Video Studio, please refer to these links:

Thank You choosing Ulead and have a great day!!!

Missing transition effects in vs10+

Post by Sharona »

I older version it was very simple just copy the .vfx file to the new version. But from vs 8 to vs 9. I did the same and was not able to see them in the list of effects in the vs9. And the same is for vs9 to vs10+.
I saw a note in the form about coping from vs9 to vs10+ and the advaice was to copy also the .dat files from the c:\documents and settings\your uid\ulead systems\video studio 9 to the same with 10. I did this too and after that I can see in the effect list the albumes that was missing. But when I tried to use it all of them perform the same. So I wonder what I did wrong. In any case I will do a clean install of both and perform the process again.

I just happened to be writing an article on this for inclusion in my tutorial currently under development. for convenience here is the relevant article:

A popular query raised on the User forum relates to the use of Transitions from earlier versions.
Version 9 has 3 categories of Mask Transition
Mask A with 21 Transitions
Mask B with 9 Transitions
Mask C with 18 Transitions.
Total 48 Mask Transitions.

Version 10 has a single Mask Category with transitions named
MaskA to MaskA6 (7)
MaskB to MaskB6 (7)
MaskC to MaskC6 (7)
MaskD to MaskD6 (7)
MaskE to MaskE6 (7)
MaskF to MaskF6 (7)
Total 49 Transitions.

The remaining Categories are labelled the same and in most case have the same number of transitions:
The most noticeable change is the reduction of the number of album transitions from 15 to 7. Having said this it must be pointed out that there were several complaints from users regarding the album transitions and so this may be a deliberate move by Ulead to remove troublesome ones.

The number of transitions in each category and also a comparison of the album transitions in version 9 (on the left) and version 10 (along the bottom) can be seen below. It should also be noted that the Albums transitions in Version 10 have the same names as Version 9 but the transitions are different.
for example compare Flip2 of both versions.

Image

It is therefore my recommendation NOT to import version 9 transitions into version 10 as there is very little to be gained and indeed it may also prove to be counter productive and introduce problems at a later date.

You can increase your collection of transitions by downloading a large collection of free ones supplied by Forum Member Stefan Burger here:
http://www.burgers-transition-site.de/

If that isn't sufficient you can purchase more from the Ulead Website here:

Tranzisions in VS 10+

Post by Sharona »

As you can see from the form a lot of users lake the Albums but not only this. I have in vs 9 installed all the addon from CD2. I can't find this addon cd2 for vs10+. I also tried to install my old Canopus FX but the install document state that only version 5,6 and 7 are supported.
I need more transition's since we most create slide shows of more then 100 non video images and the only way to show it live is using transitions between them. Therfore we need more and more transitions. The lake of the Album's is realy a major problem since we use it a lot.

according to my calculator adding that lot up = 183 transitions.
Add to that a further 20 Burger transitions that can be downloaded for free = 203 transitions.

Most of these transitions can be customised
Take for example Wipe | Diagonal
You can choose one of 4 different directions

So.... How many transitions would you like ?

Not quite sure, Steve, where you are getting 183. Ulead itself only claims 'over 120'. See http://www.ulead.com/vs/UVS10_Plus_FB_03_30_06.pdf Now of course, 183 is 'over 120', but I suspect Ulead meant more than 120 but less than 130. My own count is 118, but as I said elsewhere, I am missing the Album transition entirely (and can't copy it from VS9 either!), and also have a strange collection of Mask transitions (and much fewer than your list).

See my chart above where I counted the individual transitions

15+7+5+7+20+13+14+6+5+7+4+7+5+19
Then add the 49 Mask Transitions = 183.
You can then add on another 20 Free Burger Transitions = 203.

Or.... did Ulead give me a different copy to everyone else?

As you said, Ken, 183 is "over 120"
