Unable to install trial DVD MovieFactor - Corrupt exe?

Post by mikew »

I downloaded the trial version of DVD MovieFactory 5.0. When I try to run the .exe, I get a message saying:

The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again.

I've tried downloading it a couple of times without luck. Anyone else have a similar problem?

Try this:
Locate the exe file in windows Explorer. Right click and unzip it with winzip.
This should extract several more files/folders including one named setup.exe

Don't know if sjj1805's solution works, but I DL'd the MF5 trial from the Ulead web site twice last week with the same error. On another web site's forum they suggested I DL the trial from download.com. That one worked fine for me.

I have the same problem and I tried Steve's suggestion. Sorry Steve, it does not work.

For some time already Ulead has had customers dowload a file which is is corrupt. It makes no difference how you unzip it. The installation checks package integrity and stops after it sees that the package is corrupt. The doiwload was extremely slooow and then the file was corrupted. I redowloaded with exactly the same result.

I have sent emails to Ulead technical support (which BTW is only accessible once you have registered your software, which of course one cannot do before installing it. I own a previous version so I could do it). I also sent a contact request to Element 5 which takes care of the online sales. Neither one has answered.

It will be interesting to monitor how long it will take before a corrupt file is replaced on Ulead server. Judging from messages on this forum, it was corrupted already some time ago.

Ulead, wake up! People here have paid for the product which is corrupt and you don't react!!!

I saved the URL for the MF5 trial download, and just downloaded it again right now to check (dmf5_tbyb_e.exe 85.629.868 bytes).

It is complete and runs. And as Steve said, the MF5 trial EXE can be unpacked with winzip.

Maybe you guys have a slow connection (or picked a bad time) and run into server-side timeouts?

Note: winzip cannot be used to unpack most update packs because they check for product presence when run, before unpacking and installing themselves.

I have a very fast DSL connection. I am not interested in the trial version, I have already paid for the software, so obviously I want the full package including extra content (DVD templates etc). It is not the same file as the trial version, and this file IS corrupt, it is not a problem of not being able to unzip or not to find the exe file. After unzinp the installation procedure checks the files for integrity and finds mistakes and therefore stops.

And as messages on this forum show, this has been the case for a long time already. BAD

Hi Maukka,

Getting a corrupt download after paying is bad news and needs immediate attention. Of course. In your case Element 5 needs to react.

But the topic of this thread is:
Unable to install trial DVD MovieFactor - Corrupt exe?
And that was the target of my answer. The topic didn't change due to your post. :D

My problem was solved:

I had downloaded the upgrade version, but I no longer had the previous version on my system, so the installataion was stopped at some point. I guess this is kind of logic (also, the serial number of the previous version is needed twice, when you order and when you install).

The problem was that I did not get a message specifying that a required previous version is not found. Instead, I got a message saying that the downloaded package was corrupt!
So I thought it was corrupt.

Hi,
Instead, I got a message saying that the downloaded package was corrupt! So I thought it was corrupt.
Then it's no wonder you thought it was corrupt!

Technically speaking, the packaging is corrupt if a previous installation needs to be present but it tells you that it itself is corrupt! So it was actually telling the truth
