You only need to capture in AVI/DV if you plan on editing. If you are not then capturing directly to MPEG will save you a lot of time. Just make sure your capture is DVD compliant so you don't have to render it again.paulwho wrote:Thank you all who helped me with this problem. Just to round of what Guy has said above.
Capture to MPEG if you don't intend to do any editing AND you either have a hardware MPEG encoder or a computer that will make NASA proud.
Normal capture methods are to DV type 1 (AVI) and occupy about 13GB per hour. Most computers when converting that to DVD compliant MPEG2 will take between a hour and half to 3 hours to complete this task.
From this consider the implications of attempting to convert "on the fly."
