ISO image DVD / CD mismatch

Post by Nounours18200 »

I have burned a video compilation on a DVD (with UVS 9) using a mini-DVD (8 cm) and asked UVS 9 to simultaneously create the ISO image. The size of the compilation is slightly over 800Mb.

When I try to burn again from this image, Nero 6.6.0.18 tells me that this image requires another media, and that I should use a CD-R/RW !?..

I am both very surprised and in the mess, because until now, UVS9 has always created perfect ISO images of my compilations ...

I tried to burn a DVD from previously created ISO images , and Nero has no pb, so the pb comes from this compilation or image. For this compilation, I have used "personalized" MPEG parameters using the available option on the burning screen (upper field first, quality=100%, 9800kbps, Dolby audio, audio bitrate=256kbps), but I do not see any consequence on the ISO image.

What can I do ??

P.S.: I have verified that the problem also appears if I create the image when using a DVD+RW (12cm) so the size of the media do not seem to be relevant. I have also verified that I have the same pb if I use the standard MPEG HQ parameters... The burned DVD is perfectly read on any player.

This is not really a response to your post -- just kind of a parallel occurrence.

Recently I was asked to make another copy of a DVD (made with UVS from old family footage) I'd sent to some members of the family. When I put my disk into the upper tray and tried to "copy disk" onto a blank DVD, Nero told me that I was using the wrong media: The original was on a CD and was an SVCD. I'd stuck a label on it and didn't know what it was.

What type of disc do you have in the drive?

Also, what happens when you use the Ulead Disc Image Burner?

I have no pb at all with the UVS9 burner... I have got the same error with other medias: DVD-R from Verbatim, DVD+RW, etc...

Since this pb, I have tried something else: I have installed another burning software, CDBurnerXPpro version 3.0.116, freeware, to check if it generates the same error than NERO.

Not at all: it recognizes the ISO image and burn my DVD perfectly !

So I still do not know why NERO generates this pb, but if I use this freeware (looks excellent by the way), I have a solution to use my ISO images...

I nevertheless believe that this thread may help somebody else.

Well if there is no problem with the Ulead VCD/DVD Disc Image Recorder or the freeware program, then it is obviously a Nero problem. First, though, can you confirm that when you said there was no problem with the Ulead burner, that you meant the VCD/DVD Disc Image Recorder and not the normal burning module which, you said, burned your DVD in the first place.

And to ask the obvious question, though it needs to be ruled out, did you by any chance recently burn a CD using Nero (for which you would have had to change the settings to CD) and you forgot to turn it back to DVD for this current project? If so, then Nero would naturally report that it needed a CD rather than a DVD blank disc.

I have had this problem before also.
It is not a Ulead problem, it is a Nero problem. For some reason Nero started refusing to recognise anything as being destined for a DVD unless the file itself was over the 1gig minimum limit for DVD's. Anything under 1gig and Nero would insist on the CD despite instructing the software to "pad" to the 1gig limit. Going into the Nero Burning ROM sometimes would allow me to "force" a DVD burn but no way Nero Express would do it.
Ultimately a re-install of Nero fixed the problem for me.

Yes, I agree with you, it looks like a Nero pb because the freeware is able to burn it on a DVD.

I forward the Lancecarr message to the French Nero Forum where "experts" are looking at the pb... Until now, we have tried to upgrade the firmware version of the DVD burner, but the pb remains the same.

Thanks,
N.
