Playback Options Dialog

What can be adjusted by the bottom most slider in the dialog file/playback options? Its labeled low..high and you can set a value from zero to ten.
I searched the manual, the online help, Charlie Hills great book, this forum but didnt find anything. Is it speed, quality ... ?

This is from Ulead's learning center for MSP7 but also applies to MSP8.

Thanks very much. I had read these tutorials sometimes but didnt remember where I had read it and what it meant.
