No, it definitely doesn't sound right. With your computer specs, it should only take a relatively small fraction of the time it actually took. In the first place, it sounds like it has re-rendered your video (though even if it did, it still took too long!) In the burning module, did you click on the little cog-wheel icon in the bottom left of screen and check the box beside "Do not convert compliant MPEG files'? That at least would save any re-rendering.
Then again, you do not give any of the properties of the video you were burning to DVD, nor any indication of how exactly you were going about the burn e.g. did you go straight from the timeline to the burn (i.e. Share > Create Disc)? Or did you first Share > Create Video File and only after that was produced, did you open the burning module to burn the DVD? We need this sort of information in order to be able to offer more precise help. Most importantly did you read and follow the recommended procedure in the first posting at the top of this Board?

About 7 hours of rendering time is possible if the source material needs to be transcoded, or if you are applying effects or filter globally. Without more information about the assets that are going into your DVD, it's hard to tell -- if you can, right-click on one of the files, bring up the clip properties, and paste the contents into a reply in this thread.

my experience
1.5GHZ with 1G ram took just over 3hours.
2.8GHZ with 1G ram took 1 hour 47 minutes.
About 50 minutes of video. Four transition effects and no menus.
