field order help

Post by shellant »

Hello,
I have a canopus dvstorm 2 card, Premiere pro 1.5.1 and Uled DVD workshop2.
My problem is.. I capture Video from my VHS deck to the storm bay anolog inputs. (Lower Field First) Edit the video on the Premiere Timeline( when I say edit I really mean clean the head and the tail and maybe cut some tape drop outs)
I export from premiere the Movie as a Canopus AVI (lower field first)and then import this into DVD workshop, add some menus and then burn the DVD.
The DVD looks great on the computer screen but on several domestic DVD player/television combinations the image becomes quite strobey/jittery (thats a technical term. lol).
After some experimenting I have found the only way I can eliminate this is to go back to premiere and resave but select Deinterlace in the field options.
After more experimenting I discovered that if I were to burn the DVD directly from the Premiere timeline (lower field first) the dvd plays fine, both on Computer screen and Television.
Should I assume that there is a field order issue when transcoding the AVI to mpeg in DVD workshop ..
If so am I able to change the field order that DVD workshop transcodes in.
Or do I reconfiger the capture method??????
Regards and thank you in advance
Tony

You can verify and set field order if you enable advanced settings. Please read the section "More Detailed Project Properties Information" here:

Thank you Helge,
I will try that this evening and let you know how I go.
:D
I was surprised to see that you wrote back to me from Tomorrow (the future) then I thought about it and here in florida it is today but I see you are in Germany where it is already tomorrow.
Thanks again for your reply

Analogue sources are normally UPPER field first.
LOWER field is normally for digital sources.

Thank you for your reply I now will try and find out what the dvstorm settings are and see if I can change them and experiment that way.

I tried both of your suggestions and added the line but it didn't seem to make a difference in the template dialo area. Is this adjustment meant for all versions of dvd workshop..
I have DVD"workshop 2"

This fix is for dws2 (ok, maybe you need to have the patches installed). But there is one caveat: the heading viodriver is more than once in the ini-file, and it does matter where you add the line :!: And do not write Advanced but Advance and without any blanks befor or after the "=". Of course you should change the file while dws2 is closed. Then it should work.
