Hey Steve,
don't chuckle at me, please.
I only have a couple of 'posts'..but that is because I got so frustrated with PI XL that I quit spending time trying to get it stable and some what error free...some years ago. When I came back last month to ask about PI11 my old user name was not valid so I started up again.
I am not in a position to reinstall XP-Pro and all of the programs, utilities...etc but given that I still would like to be able to use PI11 or 10 or even 8 but they all give different error messages when I try.
I have tried every suggestion (that I could find) from this forum, I tried everything that UL 'support' had to offer, but when UL 'support' started throwing the FUD around I knew I was pretty much on my own.
how about this? I set up a virtual machine and use it for anytime I want to use PI?
I really just want PI to work.
I don't know if my XP-pro, AMD dual core processor, three monitor support or the alighnment of the stars is preventing this program to run but if you have any tricks I can try....I'll be glad to add it to the 5 or 6 hours I've already spent. (trying and trying)

I have had a lot of trouble installing and running many different Graphic Editors on my AMD. According to AMD Tech support, I finally found that the MMX was not processing instructions stricktly to the Intel guidelines.

That goes for Photoshop 7.0, Ulead PI10, Norton 2005, and recently Paint Shop Pro X, all other software works fine except for these programs. However, that said, "I still have my old intel Celeron 1.3 hanging around and fired it up last week for a project. Out of curiosity I installed all of those programs that would NOT run on my AMD. I used a multi-boot configuration and installed to ME and XP with SP2 and all updates. AND, Guess what! They all run perfect on my Intel.

Needless to say it isn't the software it is either the hardware or the device drivers. At least in my case!

I can always install another copy of the OS on another partition in any of my AMD machines and if I do not install anything else...UL will run.
I just can't justify a standalone computer for ULead.
I think my main issue is that this type of bs has been going on for years, if the internet did not exist I'm sure that Ulead would say that they have never heard of this problem....problem with lots of folks communicating is that after comparing this and that it is apparant that there just might be an issue that might need to be addressed (in less time than years and years?)

I generally have UL working on a system and if somewhere down the line it quits working my stomach gets real tense as I know the odds of just reinstalling Ulead PI is not a garenteed means to get it working again.
One one machine I could not get gif animator to work...all other ulead programs worked...just not gig ani (ever).

If you complete your system configuration in your user profile and provide some softwares installed in your system that would help.

And, error messages are also needed, please.

Best regards,

profile updated, I'll gather a list of sw installed and copy down the two error messages I always get.
thanks,
I'll get this other info up tomorrow.
FWIW I did have ULPI 11 installed and working when all that was installed was the OS, win office 2k, the nvida drivers, PCIllin, radeon and one monitor. I was happy and finsihed the install of the many many more programs/utilities and added the matrox and two more monitors...that was a little too much and it failed to get past mfc42.dll

I'm sort of busy right now but will get the entire list of programs still installed listed here this weekend coming.
as a side note,
I updated xp-pro, I defragged, I disk checked, I replaced all of the system files with ones from my install cd, I dissabled PCillin, I dissabled spybot, I dissabled windozs firewall, I uninstalled everything I could find dealing with ulead.....I ran reg cleaner, I defragged, I rebooted (with all protection off) I installed ULPI-10, it choked at loading mfc32.dll.
I shugged my shoulders but then was reminded that I needed to get a few things done today (graphically) so just for the heck of it I connected to another computer on my network that is running win2k-pro with UL-XL on it. I clicked on the exe within the other computers XL folder and bam....I was running XL (through the network).
This might hold me over until we can resolve the real issue here. It is better than spending another 6+ hours beating my head against the UL-CD.

I guess I spoke too soon. The XL was fine while I was drawing on it when I tried to process some images it choked and died. I then opened UL PI 8.0 which was also on that machine, it worked fine for a while then gave the old out of memory error message.(3 gig of ram, 700 gig of hdd on the machine with 2 gig of ram and 300 gig of storage assigned in UL preferences)
I can’t really go through this side step after all…I need the UL-PI 10 or 11 to install and work on my new xp-pro machine.

Hi guys

I know this is late and its not to do with PI in itself as such, but part of the discussion was talking about uninstalling and cleaning registries, etc.

I run a couple of different registry clean-up programmes from different companies; one called 'registry fix' and the other called 'registry mechanic' which are reasonably cheap (and I'm not plugging them, only in so much as they've done a job for me - there are many others out there as well). They do a good job as far as I can see and many of my PC problems on image software crashes and other programme slow downs, for instance, have been greatly reduced.

As I have only basic knowledge of the mechanics of programmes, etc, I run them both regularly (and definately after uninstalling any programme to clean things out without having to go into the registry manually to furtle around maybe banjaxing things I have little knowledge about).
Thanks & regards.

while I had high hopes that reg mechanic would fix my problems it did not. It did find some 400+ erronious entries but UL still doesn't like my set up.

At least we now know you are a genuine forum member and so I will do my best to help.
Unfortunately we do get quite a few people who create a user account to simply log on once let off some steam and we never hear from them again.

I have looked at your system specifications - no problems there.
I have noted the steps you have already taken in an effort to resolve this matter.
Let me just list them again here as it will assist in our investigation of this issue.
Updated XP Pro
Defragmented Hard Drives.
**Ran Disc checker
Ran system file checker.
Disabled PC-cillin, spybot, windows firewall
Ran Reg cleaner
**Problem with mfc32.dll
Ran Registry fix
Ran Registry Mechanic
**Uninstalled all Ulead Programs.

I have marked 3 items ** which I would like to investigate further.
An internet search reveals that
MFC32.dll - Microsoft Foundation Class Library. It is a wrapper for Visual C++ runtime.

I have a theory that if you purchased two identical computers and then 2 different people installed exactly the same software that the machines will still end up being different. the chances are tht the two people will install their software in a different order e.g. one installs Microsoft Office and then installs PhotoImpact. the other user installs his the other way round and installs Microsoft Office after Photoimpact.
Both programs replace certain existing common files and so one or two dll files will be different versions.

Do a search of your computer for mfc32.dll to see if there is more than one copy.
Some programs install dll files in the Windows\System32 directory others within the programs installation folder or in the directory tree c:\program files\Common files.

If you do find more than one copy check to see if they are different file sizes and/or versions. If so make back up copies of them in their existing folders using the extension bak. So you would have a file named mfc32.dll and a backup called mfc32.bak you are then able to revert to the original file by renaming.

Windows should firstly look in the programs installation folder for any necessary files it needs and if it fails to find them it then uses you windows PATH statement to look in other locations. So if you have mfc32.dll in your Ulead folders try replacing it with another.

Next you need to make sure the dll file has been registered. You do this by noting the location of the dll file
e.g. C:\windows\system32\mfc32.dll
You then type the following into the Run box from your START button
regsvr32 C:\windows\system32\mfc32.dll
You should get a confirmation message that the file has been registered.

Next check
I realise you say you uninstalled anything Ulead but I don't know how you did this and so I ask that you try again but using the method outlined in this link:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 5773#55773

Next check
I again realise you have ran a disc checker. Again I do not know how you did this and so would ask that you try this method but I suggest you do so overnight. this method will take quite some considerable time and in addition to checking your Hard Disk for filing system errors it will check for and attempt to correct bad blocks. It will also mark those bad blocks accordingly in the MFT (master file Table) to prevent them being used again.

In the run dialog box from the START button
CHKDSK /R

You will have to restart the computer for the check to take place.

Further suggestion

Check the Windows Event Log for error messages:
START | RUN dialog box
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s
and press enter.
Now check the following two folders
Application
System

You will find a red circle with a white cross inside. Double click to open it and there you will find a link
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
This link also contains some hidden code appertaining to your error.
Double click and you will then be given more detailed information and possible cures.

There is no mfc32.dll, there is a mfc3216.dll, Widows System will not open programs if mfc42.dll is missing or damaged.

There are two uncompressed versions of mfc42.dll and three stored locations, the compressed original is in the i386 install folder.

When mfc42.dll gets damaged or goes missing, a new file is installed from folder dllcache to system32 automatically. If the dll copy in the dllcache goes corrupt it is installed automatically from the i386 folder. You can copy the current mfc42.dll file from the dllcache folder to the system32 folder to replace it. All automatic installs are based on Windows security. Mfc42.dll is periodically updated with the install of new Windows updates or Service Packs.

Therefore, if you are having trouble with mfc42.dll, Microsoft will tell you the problem is either in the registry or Ulead is incorrectly installed.

Keenart,
You are correct, just a mistype on my part…mfc42.dll, not 32.

Steve,
Thanks for all of the typing!
To clarify a bit,
Disk checker ran after restarting, took around 1~2 hours…no errors found.
Did it again a bit ago..no errors found.
I dumped mfc42.dll from sys32 folder as well as dill cache folder…reinstalled using
Sfc/scannow. Thinking (hoping) it was corrupted…no change after doing this.
I have uninstalled as per the recommendations within that link (several times now).
There are no instances within the event logger/viewer, today. Given that I have just tried everything mentioned (I must say that each attempt has been at least this carefully handled and generally I have included other things here and there that have been mentioned. I have also tried holding my breath several times while clicking the exe, no joy to date.
So…I believe I have done what has been mentioned and still no ULPI-10 (I have decided to hold off on 11 till the ‘patch’ shows up).
I await other suggestions.
I’ll print out the programs and list them tomorrow, good night.

Can you tell us the version of this mfc42.dll? Mine is v6.2.4131.0, its file size is 1,028,096 bytes and is dated 2004/8/4.

Checking with Microsoft they tell me there are problems with the Ulead *.cfg file that stops the start proceedure. They say to rename the Ulead *.cfg files to *.old and the file should start. I cannot test this theory since my Ulead is working.

HT,
same as yours
a system search for instances of mfc42.dll turned up these results. Notice that some have different dates for apparantly the same (size/version) dll. Also the older ones showed a file version and a then a different product version...the newer dll only shows a 'version' number.
