Crash...

Post by Bebo »

Hello
I have been using VS9 for a long time now, but presently I have been trying to edit a movie made of:
The first thing a black image (standard UV9 black picture)
A few seconds clip
Transition
A multi trimmed clip in 3 parts (total of 1 h)
Transition between all of them
And finally another clip
Now I go to the Make-Disc option proceed thru all option (no dvd menu) and then click on burn. Now it takes its time I leave alone as usual and when I come back it isnt there anymore...so it shuts itself at about 4% in the upped bar and 90 something% in the lower bar.
My specs: P4 2.8 HT
Fx5900 MyVIVO
1 GIG RAM
320 GB (i have enough space in all the prog's working folders)
Audigy 1

So... im waiting for answers people :D (thank you in advance)

Render all the component parts of your project into one file, keeping the properties the same as your large, multi trimmed file. Once you have one rendered file, follow the standard procedures for burning where there is no data in the time line and you are using the 'Add Video' feature to make your burn.

It sounds as if you skipped a couple of steps.

However, you say you've been using UVS for a long time. So you probably do not usually skip steps.

If you re-describe your procedure in greater detail, especially toward the end, we might see more clearly what went wrong.

No wait its quite ok now! It was because of that black screen (lasted 5 sec) i put in before the first clip. I took that out and BAM prob solved + UVS never even showed in preview project. it skipped directly to the first clip.
Thnx anyway. CU next time :)
EDIT: P.S its quite odd that it doesnt take it in the project (the black screen), what if I would like to make an intro of nothing but black screen for 5-10 sec, eh?

The way you have described your workflow suggests that you are creating a disc (burning) while you still have the project in the timeline. This is a known source of problems in VS and is why kebrinton suggested creating one big DVD compliant mpeg2 first. With a single MPEG created and with an empty timeline go directly to the "Share module" and create a disc from the single MPEG2.
If this is the first time you have had this problem then congratulations! You have been luckier than most! Theoretically VS "should" be able to do what you are doing but in practice it is an unreliable method...as you discovered.
The sticky note at the top of the forum lays out a "Recommended Procedure" that will minimise problems such as you are descibing.
