Importing, Editing & Burning a NTSC DVD

Post by martyt »

Hi All,

Living in Australia I have always captured, edited, authored and burnt my DVD's using the PAL format. Now I wish to edit a NTSC formated dvd (Region 0) by adding chapters to it. I've imported the Video-TS folder from this dvd into the timeline (via import DVD/DVD-VR option) and have set all project settings to the NTSC format. I have then tried to create a disc by using a rendered file. Upon burning my project I keep getting the following message: "Drive is not ready". I have even tried rendering to a Pal format with the same outcome.

So I'm just wondering if anybody can provide any guides to successfully complete this kind of project or can it not be done due to a PAL/NTSC conflict? Thanks in advance for any help.

I have created PAL DVDs on my NTSC machine without issues.

You might want to try authoring to a hard drive folder, them burn as a separate step.

If you can author to the folder without issue but then burning to a DVD is still a problem, you might want to try a different program to see if it burns OK. Also, do you have all the latest updates, including the CD/DVD burning engine?

I authored a trial version to the hard drive and then did the burn through Roxio. Everything went fine except for one of the chapter points which started at a different point to what I had set. I'll have to re-check my authoring. Tried to burn through VS8 but still got the "Drive is not ready" message. I'll download the latest updates and see if it helps. Thanks for your response.

If you have a Packet Writer / Drive Letter Access program installed, it may have taken control of the blank media as soon as you closed the drive's tray. Try disabling your PW/DLA utility if possible to see if that solves the issue.

Pleased to say that everything is now working fine. I haven't added any patches/updates and have had no need to disable other programs. I render at exactly the same settings as the imported file and then author and burn this rendered file without problems. I still don't know what was going on before but all is well now. Thanks for your responses.
