Error: MPEG program stream not compatible

Post by dbarnum11 »

Using MovieFactory 5

Project: import VOBs from 6 existing DVDs and apply menus.
Status: DVD 2,3,5,6 success; DVD 1,4 receive this error:

The MPEG stream is not compatible with this DVD engine
[533:-2147216487:0]

Error occurs when creating DVD folders. Task seems to be almost complete and this message appears. Other DVDs work fine.

Have tried adding video VOBs to main window, then tried Import feature, then tried BadgerIT VOB2MPG, all with same result.

Am attempting to write 4.36gigs out of possible 4.38gigs.

New attempt:
Converted VOB to AVI
Imported avi and reduced quality of mpeg to GQ Dolby Audio
Still got the same message attempting to create DVD folders

Any suggestions please?

Thanks

Doug

I've had lots of problems editing MPEGs....

Are your source-DVDs homemade or commercial? You have the right to remain silent if decryption tools are illegal where you live (i.e. here in the USA).

Are you splicing-together the MPEGs from the 6 DVDs, or is each a separate title (program)?

I wouldn't expect too many problems if you simply imported some chapters and made each chapter into it's own title on the DVD. When you start cutting, splicing, and crossfading MPEGs, you can get into trouble.

Commercial DVDs with extra "junk" in the VOB (multiple soundtracks, multiple angles, and subtitles) might cause problems.

Some stand-alone DVD recorders also seem to make DVDs that Ulead can't handle.

It's not unusual to get a bad MPEG that plays back OK, but causes Ulead to choke. (I call this "sneaky" file-corruption.)

If you are cutting, splicing, and crossfading, you may need to get Video Studio to import the DVDs and save them in AVI/DV format before any editing. (I'm not sure, but I don't think MF can do that.)

Or, get a special-purpose MPEG editor. I use Womble ($50 - $140). Another good MPEG editor is VideoReDo ($50), but it can only cut & splice. Actually, you may need Video Studio and a special-purpose MPEG editor, because I don't think Movie Factory can import a DVD an save it as an MPG file.

Or, maybe

"These DVDs were produced by our video section using Media100. The menus needed improving so they submitted the project to our multimedia section. However the original project has been cleared and only the DVDs remain."

I am importing the VOBs (the MovieFactory IMPORT function on the launcher seems to convert to mpeg)-- therefore yes I am splicing then re-dividing the titles, using the mpeg produced by the import funciton

Thanks for the tips -- I will try your suggestion to splice and dice outside of MovieFactory and repost

Just to close out this issue.

I converted VOBx to Mpeg2 using MF5 "import" feature on launcher.
Sliced Mpeg2 with Mpeg2Cut2 (free and de-multiplexing not required)

Imported into MF5 resultant Mpeg2 files and created disc with no problem.

Thanks to DVDDoug for the tip.
