Crashes with image files

Post by Orio »

hello everyone.
This is my first post on this forum, so I introduce myself, my name is Orio, I work as an artist modeler with a well-known 3D software company.

I write because I am having many problems of crashes when inserting image files in the timeline. I get instant crashes when inserting TIFs, PSDs, TGA - whenever I try to insert an image that has an alpha channel. But sometimes I get instant crashes even when inserting simple JPGs.

Also I find the application more unstable overall than version 7 used to be. I am a bit worried, because I am currently unable to make a project I need to make, and I am even considering reinstall version 7.

Can anybody help with some insight especially about the crashed with the image files?

Thank you in advance.

Orio

Never heard of anything like this. Sounds like there must either be a corrupt file handling images or some incompatibility with something else on your machine. What OS are you using? How are you generating your image files and what size are they? Do you have enough space on the partition(s) where you have your temp files?

I would suggest you try a complete uninstall, including everything related to MSP8 in your docs and settings directories and, if you know how after backing up, in your registry. Then reinstall.

Brian

Is there an easy way to delete everything in the registry to do with MSP or Ulead? I did it manually once and it was a real pain (loads of registry entries)

Cheers

I use Registrar Lite (freeware version) at http://www.resplendence.com/main

This is a registry editor with a very powerful search function. It will allow you to list all the keys, values and data with your keyword, select those you want or all of them and delete the selected items in one fell swoop. Cleaning the registry after an uninstallation therefore takes only a minute or two, even if you have to use more than one keyword in your search. I've used it for years and have never been disappointed and it has saved me many, many hours of work. WARNING: the freeware version does not have automatic registry backup: do it manually before using it, just in case...!

I also use Registry Mechanic (paid version) regularly, just to tidy up loose ends.

Thanks Brian. I already have Registrar Lite having used it to edit the registry to move programs to a D: drive instead of C: drive. It really helped. I forgot I had it. It was a long time ago I cleared out the registry of MSP (when I had MSP 7 VE DVD edition and screwed it with the 7.3 Service Pack - only works on MSP 7 Full).
