Hi, everyone!
I have VS 9, and I have been having a problem whenever I tried to burn a DVD. I tried both from the VS9 directory onto a DVD and using the VCD/DVD Image Recorder after creating a disc image. But I kept getting the same error messages...
[Failed to record data to the disc. Code: DVDR-DAO-SPTI-2A-02-02-30-05.]
[Target device might have problems. Please try again or reboot. (5213)]
[Failed to burn data on the disc. Error: (0X8004145D)].
After a few days of searching and trying, it turns out that it was because of the software conflict. My laptop (Win-XP) came with Sonic Digital Media Limited Edition, which doesn't like to work with the dvd burning function of the Ulead VS 9. I installed the update for the VS 9 (UVS9Full_Patch1_5in1.exe), and I installed the most recent burning pack (ulead_burning3619281_pack.exe). I tried un-installing and re-installing the VS 9. I also tried updating the driver for the DVD burner (Sony). But nothing worked...
So, what did I end up doing? I purchased the Sonic/Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 (not the Essential version, but the Suite version). Then, I used the 'burn the image' function under 'Copy', and I didn't have any problem burning the ISO disk image file onto a DVD...
Now, I realize that this solution is not for everyone (, not to mention that it costs like $100!). However, I contacted the Ulead Tech Support, and they couldn't do anything. The guy I spoke to recommended me that I upgrade to the VS 10, while admitting that it may not work either. Oh, well, I REALLY needed to get this DVD home movie done, so I went to Sonic/Roxio product, instead...
For anyone who is having a similar problem, I hope what I learned will be helpful...
If you are having trouble burning a DVD...

Roxio's packet writing module and Nero's InCD module also can cause conflicts with Video Studio's disc burning capabilities. In effect, they 'take over' the burner and won't let other programs have proper access to it. You have found an effective if expensive work-around. But the other one is to see if your Sonic set-up has a packet-writing element, and then see if you can disable it internally while you are using Video Studio. You can do this with the Roxio packet-writing software, but Nero's InCD needs to be completely uninstalled.

about the packet writing of Sonic/Roxio...
Actually, I read some messages that were posted on this forum (-- I think some of them were yours, actually) about the packet-writing program, DLA, and the burning program conflict.
So, I tried to disable some of my Sonic Digital Media LE functions (like 'drag-and-drop' or DLA) one at a time. But, I still couldn't burn a disk image. So, I uninstalled the Sonic Digital Media LE and tried to burn from VS 9, but then I get a different error message. Another thing I should mention is that I don't have the installation CDs of the Sonic Digital Media LE since it came with my laptop. So, I had to use the Norton Ghost to restore Sonic Digital Media LE a few times while I was trying to work around the Sonic Digital Media LE, which was very time-consuming...
The DVD home-movie I am trying to make is a part of the Mother's Day gift for my mother who is in Japan. So, it was EXTREMELY important that I get this whole DVD burning problem resolved ASAP. I still have one more movie to make, but now that I don't have a problem with a DVD burning, I am sure that the gift will be delivered before the 14th. I haven't seen her for almost a year, but at least she can 'see' me on the Mother's Day now. So, I am happy with my Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite 8...
There is something that makes me wonder... Do you think that, if I had upgraded to the VS 10 (while keeping the Sonic Digital Media LE on my system), the DVD burning issue would have been resolved???
